Heads and V2 here. I have zero drivability issues at all. I can let the clutch out at idle with no throttle and it won't stall, buck or surge. I can dump it in 6th at 1200rpms and it just cruises. Traps 118 in the 1/4 mile. But then again, I have an awesome tuner.

I went with a TR224 for my DD. Even untuned it drives pretty decent. I went on the small side because I didn't want to give up power under the curve for a little bit up top.

I got a 383 stroker with 232 235 640 and 598 lifts, with LTs and ORY and no muffler as my dd. Its a little tricky but the only problem is the 3.42 gears, they suck, but i still get great fuel mileage with 426 rwhp

Patriot 225/229
Intake Duration: 225 @.050"
Exhaust Duration: 229 @.050"
Intake Lift: .580"
Exhaust Lift: .590"
LSA: 114+4

Love it! Drives 100% like stock, with just enough lope that even non-car guys know it's not stock. But, there's a whole lot more power at every RPM, off idle to red line. In my LS6 transplant, the car made 350 RWT at 2900 RPMS on a conservative Mustang dyno. That's with no ported TB and through the stock cat back!

Like has been said, drivability is all in the tune. I ran a 232/236 .600 112LSA in my 5.3 truck with stock converter and it drove like stock, no bucking/surging

Just 241's. Really nicely ported with stainless 2.02's milled slightly. Haven't dynoed yet, but my tuner guessed 430 and all the trap speed/weight calculators say 430. I'm leaving some on the table with the heads/intake.
mods in the sig. You'll love this cam.

I daily drove mine for a while. Car had LS6 intake, PRC Stage 2.5 5.3L Heads, and a Vengeance Racing Vindicator cam 240/244 .60X"/.59X". I also had 4.11's in a 9", stock cubic inch motor. It was definitely not a torque-happy or bottom end cam, lopey idle, didn't wake up til 3,500 and didn't really come alive til 4,000... But goddamn it pulled like a bat out of hell past that all the way to redline.

Usually required a fair amount of throttle (~25%) or a downshift to pick up speed at any useful rate like to pass someone - except in 6th gear. Sixth gear was useless for anything but cruising, putting the throttle down was pointless. If I needed to MOVE, throttle wasn't enough, it needed a downshift to bring it at least past 3,000-3,500rpm otherwise it fell on its face. Going up a good hill needed some throttle or a downshift too. For comparison's sake, there's a hill by my house... The Camaro, I had to downshift into 4th or 3rd to get up it without slowing down at 40mph, with the 4.11's. My Caprice, stock LT1, automatic with 3.08's, 4,300 pounds.... So much low end torque I barely have to touch the gas pedal at all going up that hill.

Honestly though, that stuff never bothered me. Cruise around town in 5th, highway in 6th, downshift when I needed to go faster, etc. I've got a 6-point roll bar in the car too, no A/C, a detroit locker... I had no problem driving it every day, until the weather got crappy so I bought the Caprice. Then again, that's me, none of that bothers me. Not even climbing over the bar every time I get in/out of the car.

If you want your car to be a fun, easy to live with, easy to drive, daily car... I don't recommend a big cam, look towards a smaller torque-friendly cam. If you don't mind giving up low end in exhange for an explosive top end, go for a bigger cam and gears.

Hope that helps

It idles jsut fine, has no surging no nothing. I can put it in 6th gear going 20 and hammer the throttle and it just chugs along like its nothing.

PRC 5.3's and a straight XER 224/228 114+2 LS6 intake and it drives like butter. Making numbers in sig but remember that was with a magnaflow and catted Y (currently running a dumped H pipe setup) and a 9 inch. I like to imagine how much higher it would be with a 10 bolt and better intake...

What rear gears do you have? I think my car is around 500rpm in 6th gear at 20mph and it would not pull when it was stock. I self tune my car and I while going through the stages of dialing in my car (still am) I can tell that with out a good tune some cams will not be very driveable. I'm running stockish 243's on a cam that has around 12 degrees of overlap. I usually shift around 1500rpm and my car has great low end torque. I have some issues when I let off the gas it bucks a little but I am working on that. I can cruise 6th gear with no issues, just not at 20mph. I still have stock 3.42 gears. A/C works great but I have tuned it to. I think the biggest issue is trying to go 5mph in 1st gear, at 1st I could not even let off or touch the gas without having to push in the clutch (wild bronco!), now I can actually chug along fairly well in 1st.
