Default 20 more horses!

I am really wanting 400rwhp, i know the amount of hp you have doesnt mean ****, but its just a goal of mine without aftermarket heads. My car is a 98 z, i have a 224/230 camp, headers, ory with bullet, and a lid. Also it is a a4, with a 3500 stall. I made 380 rwhp, but i really want 20 more. I was thinking about getting my TB ported, I also knew I could get a pulley, but i really dont know if I want one. Any other ideas for wha I could do?

obviously the numbers mean something to you, or you wouldnt be looking for more power. dont waste money on a stock ported TB, it probably wont gain more than 3 or 4 hp max. id say LS6 intake, [or a FAST would def get you there+ a new TB if you go that route], electric water pump, pulley, and a new tune to get the best of what you are adding. youre a stalled auto, so you are losing power on the dyno through that more than a 6 speed car. also, you have a small cam, so you wont see big numbers cam only with that. i am not saying there is anything wrong with a small cam, but dont expect MS4/trex numbers with yours. however, adding a good set of new ratio roller rockers would increase the pwoer of your cam, and would put you on track to get your 400rwhp.

my bad guys, i knew i forgot something, i have a ls6 intake manifold. yeah i do know my cam is smaller, which i really like it being my car is driven 200miles a week. Also i run nitrous and its a good cam on the bottle.

some reason i just dont know if i want a pulley, but a good set of RR's probably wouldnt be a bad idea. so do you all feel that i shouldnt waste my time for a few extra horses with the PTB? they are really cheap, so if i can gan 3-5 hp i was thinking that might not be bad.

it is cheap, and since youre only looking for 20hp, it might not be a bad idea. the RRs will give your cam a nice little boost while maintaining drivability. if you go with those, a pulley isnt neccesary. just make sure you get a retune.

goddamn, ive been tech too long. stupid rainy days

Either add a set of cheap LS6 ported heads or run N20 all the time

has your car been tuned? a quality tuner should be able to pull out near that 20Hp if it hasn't been yet. a TB won't get you twenty, mine got me about 10.....and for about 100 bucks not a bad mod anyway.

For the amount fo money you would spend on an electric water pump, might as well buy a bigger cam(MS3) and UD pulley.

I am very happy with my cam, and do not want to swap another in. I also plan on getting heads, just not yet i really want to meet my goal of 400 cam and bolt ons. the RR's and PTB seem to be what ill be looking at getting.

I'd say ported TB and a pulley would be a good start. I'm not sure what kind of gains they are over a lid and stock MAF, but you could always get an 85MM MAF, 85MM Lid, and also FTRA. At this point, if you don't want to mess with the heads or change cams, its gonna take a lot of little stuff like this to add up to the 20 RWHP you're after. There's always a FAST intake depending on what you want to spend.

honestly...if you plan to do heads down the road....the money you spend on that 20hp now...would be MUCH better spent down the road on a GOOOOD set of heads.

as opposed to spending $1000 on boltons to gain 20hp now, and then going budget on heads to gain another 20hp.....

save the money and spend it on top notch heads, touched up, milled and you'll gain 50hp.
money spent in the right place is better than more money spent in the wrong place.

Get a FTRA kit, pulley, and a cutout. Should get you pretty close...

dont stripes add 20rwhp? j/k do you have a cold air package such as super sucker ram air? u/d pulley plus 85mm MAF however the MAF will lean out your A/F alittle so you may need a retune for perfection. R U sure your not going to change intakes upgrading to a FAST 92 / 92? if never then ported TB. how high do you rev? goodluck! now get out there and burn a rubber road to freedom!

stripes FTW... I had a 85mm maf and there was no difference on the dyno with it and the stocker, so i sold it. I have hptuners, so for little adjustments i will be fine with doing small changes. Man i would love the a fast 90/90 but theres others thing im saving up for and buying, and i could see me kicking myself for spending a lot of money on that intake manifold. my car shifts at 6600rpm.

even with the FAST 92 ported, you'd be lucky to get 20rwhp(I got 17rwhp out of it with a cam and M6)

So I say maybe a cutout, better Headers(what you have I dont know!!) and pulleys!?
