Question Noob questions about Lifters/pushrods

I have an 02 z06 cam in right now with 7.425" hardened pushrods. the stock lifters r ticking like crazy so I was planning on grabbing new ones.

My question now is since I am going to be taking the heads and intake manifold off -

Does anyone have a suggestion of a cam that is nice and loped that will work with better replacement lifters and the 7.425" pushrods? Not looking for a ridiculous power adder cam but something decent.

(I am going to grab some new valve springs too.)

And just a last question - will the stock rockers be sufficient?

Thanks in advance!

Stock rockers will be fine, but replace them if they have over 100k on them like the lifters and lifter trays for some insurance. Doesn't mean you have to but it is a good idea. As for a cam for 7.425 PRs, you can't guess at that IMHO. If your going to do LS7 lifters at that, they seat the pushrod .060 taller than stock LS1 lifters if I remember off the top of my head. When ever you get a new cam, PR length should be checked regardless.

I know it isn't what you want to hear but I'm just giving my opinion fella,
Mike

My car has about 74k miles on it - forgot to say that lol and it has 317 heads

I guess I will grab the springs/pr's/cam in 1 deal and grab stock size lifters like the Comp Cams Pro Magnums.

I hope the sponsor or whomever I go through can assist with the common PR lengths based on cam size.. Cuz i dont have the ability to check

Does that sound like a solid plan?

You can order pushrod checker/s and do it yourself. They aren't expensive, but you can go with what the company recommends though if you want too. Be careful though, TSP recommended 7.4s along with my MS3 and PRC 5.3s and I did tap some valves just a tad. That is how I learned my lesson. Do what you want though bro

Not the Pro Magnums (Comp "R"), they are very sensitive to preload and work best with adjustable rockers. If you are going with Comps look at 850-16.

Looks like you have a turbo, so you do not really want lots of overlap, look at something like 224/220 111+1 LSA

Yea the Checker is what made me call myself a big noob. It took me forever to find it lol.

Thanks predator - i think ill go with those. I saw them and was tempted, but u just confirmed it for me lol.

As for the cam - I may just make a post for stock cubed turbo setups and see what cam comes up the most with the best feedback. I'll keep those numbers in mind as well.

thanks again!

EDIT: should i use a thicker pushrod or does that really make any difference?

I have been in the process of doing my first Heads/Cam swap on an LS1 myself.

I have been working with John@Scoggin (username here) over at Scoggin Dickey. He has been real helpful in answering all my questions and has been great to work with. They have great prices and service so I would ask him his recommendations on your build.

The pushrod length checker you will need is part # CC7702-1. Some people might have recommendations on the pushrod length depending on the setup but you will always need to check no matter what.
