Heads install
Heads install hey guys, im about to install a heads/cam swap in my 02 Z for the first time. ive been reading alot about the install but i just had a question. i read that when removing the heads you have to clean out the bolt holes and grind a used bolt to clean the holes.. anyone can help me out on this step? im completely lost how putting the bolt in grinded will clean out all the grease, coolant, etc.... thanks!
You can also get a proper thread cleaner (not tap) from ARP. That is what I used on my swap. Make sure you get all the coolant out first. I used a shop vac with a long 1/4" plastic tube duct taped to the end!
Here's what I did:
-Used air to blow out all the coolant and **** in the holes.
-Rolled up half a paper towel, twisted it down in there, picked up quite a bit of grime.
-Took an old head bolt, put it to the grinder and ground down two sides to it, threaded it down in there, twisted it back and forth a few times when it was bottomed out, threaded it back out.
-Blew them out again just for good measure.
-Presto, clean bolt holes.
The shop vac with a straw attached sounds like a good idea, I just didn't have the room in my garage for the shop vac though.
