Who heard my Stealth II idle at the Thunder Shootout?
My brother is taking the SSII out for the G5X-2. I guess he figured since it did lope, might as well get one of the biggest "lopers" (is that a word?) out there . When we pull it out, we'll get pics of the engraved Stealth II status on the cam itself.
Thats funny , turns out Im buying your bro's cam when it comes out !! How did it run without tuning ?? I actually hope it lopes a lil bit
Dave
It ran really well, pulled really nice. He never ran it at the track or on the dyno. It's a very well performing cam, power wise
It'll be funny if it doesn't lope in yours. That'd really throw us all for a loop.

I have the SSI yes the SSI stealth cam and it lopes like a G5X2 cam. I have been beating this dead horse for well over a month now. Still, I have found nothing that should make it lope. I had installed LG Long tubes on a set of unported Z06 heads with the Stealth cam. Upon first fire up without any tuning it shook the car a whole lot. I can't even explain how bad it idled stock you wouldn't believe it. Lou at LG swore my O2 sensors were wrong or out. So I took it to him to tune it. He checked it all out, tuned it and it still didn't do that much good for the idle quality. I have since changed the 02 sensors/plug wires/plugs and degreed the cam to check the specs. All is well with those things. It idles at 850 and will get into this rhythm where it rocks the whole car back and forth enough to spill a cup of water on the center console that is 1/4" from full. Not to mention the radical sounding exhaust. The car put down 403 HP with the A4 and locked converter with 3.42 gears. It runs strong as hell but idles like a G5x2 cam. Somewhere there has to be an expalination as to why mine reacted so poorly to this cam. And why other don't. It is very frustrating to read where guys are putting in 224+ cams that idle fine. I am guessing that the MAP sensor causes it. I bet some are more sensitive than others. You know the overlap is what causes the lope and the map sensors picks this up as a erratic vacuum signal and possibly causes the idle to mess up. This is my guess. In open loop I think the computer ignores a lot of sensor inputs while the engine warms up, and that is why mine is smooth as silk upon startup. But the second it goes into closed loop at about 150degrees...it starts to lope.

The reason is probably in the ignition timing. Some of the earlier years had less ignition timing at idle, which will result in a lopy'er idle. The 01-02 cars sometimes had as much as 28 degrees at idle, which will smooth the idle out alot...but can somtimes cause problems with surging in cars with bigger cams. Hope this helps.

The car is an 02 Vette. It runs 26 degrees at idle. I checked that. Before the tune it was running at 8 degrees at ilde. I thought for sure that would tame it. It did some...but not like I had hoped :-(

You mean Montgomery Motorsports Park (MMP)? Yeah, that's about the only track I go to. When are you going back? I may go this weekend if they're TNT'n and if the weather is ok. I'm curious to see how much MPH I picked up with this new SS4000 converter.
Yeah I abbreviate Montgomery as MGM. I work for the feds so we abbreviate everything. Lou's got my computer in Dallas right now tweaking on some things. I had hoped to run Friday, it is Test N Tune day. I just got the SS3600 installed in mine last month. Mine is more street oriented so I don't expect much out of it. I got some BFG 315 DR waiting but, no wheels. They are still on back order. Nothing ever seems to go my way. The way it is looking I might not get any runs in my new combo until next year. I just dumped 7 grand on parts and can't even run it :-(

My A4 vette with Stealth cam idles rough from time to time. Sometimes it is smooth, others it is rough. I don't know if it is bad as X cobra guys. It is not too bad most of the time. Definately not stealth though. You can hear a lope. My friend even said if he pulled up next to me at a light and heard my car he wouldn't mess with me.
