Default Gas Mileage after Cam?

I was curious as to if anyone paid attention to their gas mileage after a cam swap. I have been reading about the Stealth cam and wonder if that would make the smallest difference.

I would love to get every ounce of power out of my new ls1, but the main reason i bought one was becuase of the driveability (my mustangs blew)

right now the car is 100% stock, but did come with all the SLP options.

i want to get some longtubes, and ORY pipe, but wondered if the addition of a cam would make a noticeable difference.

Any comments would be appreciated!

While I saw no decrease in highway MPG with my Stealth II cam (a slight increase in highway mileage in fact), I did do stage II LS6 heads and raised the compression ratio up a point at the same time which probably had something to do with it. Still, it proves that this cam must not be too bad for gas mileage.

Gas mileage was unaffected for the most part. Obviously, the weight of my right foot will change it but for the most part, don't worry.

Like lots of people with modded cars say about mileage:

It depends on how much of that new horsepower you want to use!

19 mpg here with TR224 114 (both combined city/highway.) Was 21 mpg stock; but I'm afraid I also suffer from a lead foot! With the cam and headers, it sure feels good to let it wind up there!

Definate directly related to foot weight lol. Cam just makes your foot a bit heaver IMO.

That is good to hear, does anyone have any good references for cam installs, and any of the upgrades required. IM trying to learn as much about my new LS1 as fast as possible.

I would like to say, i sure do like the change after 8 mustangs!

Eventually i would like to do Headers and ORY, (would love to get some hookers.) But will adding the cam without the exhaust yield more gains???

And i did partially by an LS1 becuase of the gas mileage. With 4.56 in my Mystic Cobra, i was lucky to get 21mpgon the highway , i got 31 with my ls1

With an LS1, you can cam it quite a bit bigger than stock without losing much driveability. One reason this is true is because GM, in their infinite whisdom, puts a truck-grind cam in the fbody LS1's. Another reason is the driveability can really be enhanced with some good computer (PCM) tuning.

And yes, a cam will yield more HP increase than any other one item, for the reason I mentioned above.

I just filled up today and got 16.9 mpg, but that was with some WOT runs. I usually get 18-19 mpg city and I've gotten 27 mpg highway with the mods in my sig.

My car with a big cam got around 14-15mpg around town (Atlanta traffic - city only no highway) and that was with 4.30 gears. That was with tunning of course. Now that I have put my car back to stock while I switch my setup - I am getting like 12-13 mpg around town, back to the stock computer setup as well. I felt that I was driving the car a lot harder with the cam so I guess I can say I actually saw an improvement around town.
