yeah you can get upgrades for the 4l60, and building the 10bolt, you have to get super strong axles, Moser or strange are great axles. I would get a detroit locker, richmond gears, rear girdle, after market torque arm and pan hard bar, those can fall under suspension or rear end, it all works togather. before my HCI, I had a 1.9X 60' so I did some upgrading there.
