Default 427 dilemma

Hi, I want to buy a 427 short block and use the heads and supporting accessories from My LS1 engine, on it. I have an LS1 2001 camaro ss and I want a 427 in there. I only have money for the 427 block so just needed to know if I could use these ls1 heads and other necessary components to have the car running. Can the car run ok like that?
Later when I have enough money, I will buy the right heads, mods etc for the 427 block and make it run how it should be.
All I need to know is if theres anyone whose done this before, pls help Me. I dont know which direction to take. Thnx Ben

there is an aftermarket block that you can do this with but you won't be able to use sbc heads on it in the future. the waterjackets are not in the same locations so interchanging heads will not work like you want it to. you either need to build completely with sbc parts or lsx parts would be the easiest way to keep everything simple.

You can run an LSX 427 shortblock under your LS1 heads, but it will not make a lot of horsepower up in the high RPM ranges. LS1 heads will choke a 427 at higher RPM. It will however make a boatload of torque, so it'll be fun to drive. I'd say go for it.

You can come up with alot of different ways to get 427". Use the 6.0 block, the LSX block, L92 block, LS7 block, Dart block, etc... Just depends on what your budget is. 6.0 iron block is gonna be cheapest, but also teh least desirable, cause of the stroke needed to get you there, gonna put the piston compression height into the SHORT zone. LSx is probaly gonna be the cheapest and still being "desirable" since all you need is a 4.00 crank.

Also, you can do teh 427 with stock Ls1 heads, but as said, is gonna choke motor down.
