2000 Trans am low oil light help?
2000 Trans am low oil light help? My buddy bought a used 2000 6 speed ws6. And about 2 weeks after having the car the low oil light came on and it was low on oil. So we figured lets get an oil change and it said on the hood to use mobil 1 synthetic in the car must have been put in by the previous owner. Well after the $80.00 syn oil change about a week later the car still in low on oil and the light came on again and he needs to keep adding oil periodically and im scared he is gonna toast the motor. What can he do to diagnose this and would going back to regular oil fix this? Any thoughts or tips please!
Get under there and look for an obvious leak first off If it is covered in oil just use some brake cleaner to get it all off then go drive it for about 10 min let it sit for a while depending on how bad the leak is put it back on jacks and look under there again with a leak that bad should be pretty obvious
The motor is consuming oil if there arent any leaks. Pull off the throttle body and look to see its caked in oil on back side as well if the intake is coated on the inside in oil residue. I doubt its pulling that much oil through. Does the car any smoke out of exhaust? How many miles on the car?
I'm interested to see what others say on this topic. I typically seem to have the low oil light come on a lot too. Of course I always add oil, but it seems like its burning a lot. The car doesn't leak any on the ground. I watched a video shot from the back of me racing a 3rd gen and on initial take off there was a huge puff of smoke under my car (exhaust dumps underneath) the smoke ceased but I'm thinking that was oil (vid was shot at dark so a lil unclear) I'm thinking of running a dual catch can setup and getting a new pcv valve and running new lines. I read somewhere that a guy was having consumption issues and ran new lines and it fixed it since his were so gunked up, cheap fix and I wanted the catch can setup anyways. Worth a shot on my end I suppose.
