Smile Shaving Stock LS6 Heads -Power Gain?

I'm about to pull the engine apart in my '01 Zo6 to polish every nut and bolt identical to the engine in my sig.

Since I'm a new father as of this weekend, the budget to buy ported heads isn't in the cards, however I'm adding a medium cam, polished stainless headers, and a polished/clearcoated powerbond pulley. I'm putting another polished Lingenfelter intake on to help make everything look like a chrome overload.

I was thinking about having the heads shaved maybe 20 thousands and having a valve job done.... since the heads would be off anyway. I know I'll need shorter pushrods.

Does anyone have advice on how much to mill, etc?

Thanks

What cam are you going to be running? That would help with deciding how much to mill.

I'm thinking 224 or 228 on the intake, 230ish exhaust with around .590 lift on a 113+4 LSA

Stock GM Headgaskets.

Anything 230 duration and below, on a 108ICL and up should be fine decking .020. I wouldn't go any deeper than that.

The valve job is where you'll get most of the benefit, but yes decking them with a cam will yield more power. I do this all the time on stock 243/cam swaps in the F-bodies or GTO's.

You need to try the cam I use. Works with LS6 heads shaved .015, and makes 420-430rwhp with an unported 243. Driveability is perfect.

just have TSP CNC and do there valvejob on your stock castings for~600. They can mill them as as well. You will pickup a nice 30-40RWHP over stock castings

^ $600 isn't too bad...

Damian, can you pm about your cam specs? I'll keep you in the $middle$ as long as the LSA is 113ish I'm happy. I don't want the typical 111 LSA sound, not that it's bad... I just want a "burble" at idle, not a "chop" on this car.

James is right for $600 we can cnc port your castings, and mill them to your specs. You'll probably pay $250-300 just to get the valve job & milling done locally. For the extra little bit you'll get a proven cylinder head complete with cnc porting!

You should see a easy 25hp gain with no compression bump even with stock valves. We've seen 45hp with milling & stock valves!

Thanks for the info!

Serious customers call to settle details, not yap.. But it will be two months before a tear everything down. I'll call then.

I do have two questions that may help others who'd like to know.

1) What is the typical turn around time?
2) Is the work done on my actual castings, or are they traded as cores?

Im going to send you guys my 5.7 castings with welded chamber to have you guys run your 2.5 CNC program and set them up with 2.02 and 1.57 valves. That way I can keep stock piston to valve clearance and keep my 57CC chambers

For price and perfomance your heads are tough to beat
