Swaping in '02 LS6 cam-can i just use '01 springs?
I have an '02 LS6 cam going in my truck very soon (I will do it tomorrow if everything checks out well).
I have a question though: I have '01 LS6 springs installed already. Would I be able to run the '02 LS6 cam with the '01 LS6 springs or is that not such a good idea? I guess lift issues, but people install higher ratio rockers without changing springs right...so this is kind of like doing that? They will not coil-bind right?
Thank you for the help

Definitly do not use the 2002 LS6 cam with 2001 LS6 springs. While it may work, I wouldnt trust it at all. GM changed the springs when they changed the cam for a reason. The difference between an 01 and an 02 cam is BIG, and the 2002+ springs should be used. You also need to remember the fact you don't have the lighter LS6 valves to go with them, so you need all the spring you can get.

the 01 springs are for a .525 lift cam not the 02 .550 lift cam you run a large risk of coil bind also at the installed height the 01 spring is 209# (approx open) pressure while the 02 spring is 270# (approx open)
i'm not exact on the pressures but they are close to 70# different in open pressure

okay consenses heard
Although I know it would work, I believe it would not be optimal and the risk of a dropped valve is just not worth it.
i.e. 1.8 rockers on a .525 lift is more than 1.7 rockers with a .555(LS6 intake lobe) lift. What does this say for guys running 1.8 rockers with '01 LS6 cam and '01 LS6 springs though???
I think the springs were changed in '02 to accommodate for the higher rev-limiter also. Higher rev = a need for more seat pressure to stave valve float. The difference in lifts '01(.525/.525) versus '02(.555/551) is not really that big of a change. But I will take the advice and wait on new springs
Thanks again guys
