Now is time to do it right. Send it to a shop with LS experience and get it freshened up,:
Honed with trq plates

I would keep crank and block, but change rods and pistons.
Do some more searching and get written quotations. Call HKE or LME
Where do you live at anyways?
Will milling and gaskets raise my lq4 to 11:1? If not, how about running flat tops like a lq9?
I'll do lots more calling tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
Yes, it skipped my mind you had a LQ4 (dished pistons). Flat tops will raise compression and is the way to go.
Usualy poeple get forged pistons in a rebuilt and those usualy have valve reliefs, so a little head mill to make up for the relief volume is in order.
As i said, call around, that will give an idea to compare with TPIS and make you judgement. Because being 20 min away you can actualy deliver the motor yourself and save on shipping the block to another shop, so factor that in the total cost.

Adds up to 800+ but he'll do if for 700, he's known my family for years and built all our hobby class motors.
I know there will be more costs, but even if all labor and machining is under 1k i think thats a good deal. I of course have to make a list of what parts i want etc.
My dad (old school GenI guy), said: "Sh-t, iv'e seen that 10 times worse on a 283 and it ran for 80K. Just put it back together." I've learned the hard way. Some times a 1000 bucks is cheap for the peace of mind it gives you knowing it's done right. I now generally divide his figures by 10, so it probably went 8k.

Good luck with the build.
