Here are the codes I'm getting.

Code:
[PCM] P0300 - Engine Misfire Detected (SES) (Old) (History) (Current) (Immature)
[Brake] U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction (History)
[Restraints] B1001 - Option Configuration Error (History) (Immature)
[Restraints] U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction (History) (Immature)
[Restraints] U1016 - Loss of Class 2 Communication with VCM (History) (Immature)
[Restraints] U1040 - Loss of Class 2 Communications with ABS (History) (Immature)
[HUD] U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction (History) (Immature)
How do I track misfires with HPTuners?

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the hiatus. I just bought a house/garage to put the car in, so it's been taking all of my time. I've finally got around to trying to fix this again. I've changed the o2 sensors to the rear ones I took out during my header install. This didn't help.

I also bought some spark plug wires from autozone and changed them out and this didn't help either.

I cleared the DTC's after each and let the car run for a couple minutes and the code came right back.

What do you guys suggest doing next? Does it make sense to change the fuel filter and run some injector cleaner through?

When I clear the DTC the car seems to run(idle) fine and then when the code starts coming back it starts to idle rough. Does this mean it's a sensor?

I have all those codes minus the P0300 random misfire. Had them for 2 years, cant figure them out and dont seem to be causing problems with any misfires in my case.

Just had the same problem with my car. Random misfire code and oil on the spark plug. Mine blew a hole in the piston and was pumping oil up onto the plug. Might run a scope down that cylinder if you can.

Coils are transformers, and transformers have oil in them.

Coils are a form of electrical transformer. They take an input voltage and either increase it (step up) or decrease it (step down). This stepping action creates heat, so to help absorb and then disapate that heat, the coil housing is filled with oil. The housing and usually some heat sinks help to keep the coil within operating parameters.

Now, in the OP's situation it is possible that this oil could be leaking thru a hole in the housing where the plug wire connection is and could be working its way down to the plug.

Or its entirely possible the coils are dry and dont have oil in them, but I personally doubt it.

So he would mistake this "coil oil" for ? motor oil?? I would like to have a little more faith in the OP then this. And, fwiw I have never in my life heard of something like that.

I guess that's a new guess anyways, but I doubt its the problem the op is having..

Hey Guys,

Finally got around to figuring out how to log misfires. Cylinder #3 and #4 go crazy when I turn the car on. Is it weird that they are on opposite sides? None of the other cylinders misfire.

I guess this turns into a misfire question now because the cylinder with the oil is not causing a misfire (it looks like from the hptuners log)

I've linked to a log if anyone is interested. It's on box.net cause it was a little too big to upload? It's only 16kb.

I also have a similiar post on hptuners.com if anyone is interested.

I agree, I would start with a compression test on the cylinders that are misfiring. A bad MAF can also give you a multiple misfire code and which is fairly common to fail on these cars. Maybe if you have a friend that you can borrow a MAF from to test it because they sure aren't cheap just to use as a tester. But by starting with a compression test, at least you can eliminate internal motor problems first and go from there.
