Default ls1 or ls6 block on 02 ss

tried searching but couldnt find it just looking for a quick answer... where to i search to see if my block is an ls6 or ls1 block i know theres not much of a difference but j/w i have an 02 ss and i know half of the 02's come with ls6 blocks and i was j/c thanks

25% in 02 came with the LS6 block. You have to use a mirror, and look on the drivers side rear deck just below the head. I don't know the full # but the first four for an LS6 are 1256 and LS1 are 1255.

BTW I looked for hours for that sticky the other day and couldn't find it...

Did find out mine is an LS6

Just look for the bullseye on the water pump pad on the passenger side of the block, if it has it, it is LS1, if it doesn't, it is an LS6 block.

I think what you are talking about is either a 5.7 or a 6.0 block. What made the LS6 different from the LS1 was the cam, lifters, heads and intake manifold. The LS6 was and LS1 with a different upper end and after 2002 the intake manifold was the same.

Could you explain, I cant find a bullseye? Im trying to figure out the same thing the op is lol.

01' and later LS1 and LS6 blocks are for the most part identical. Pre 01' blocks are less desirable because of crankcase pressure problems.
