Default LS1 Crack Cap Rods

Are the ls1 factory rods reusable? I am rebuilding a engine that came out of a burnt car, and water sat in the cylinders. I have 3 questions:

How far can the stock sleeves be bored?

Are the stock ls1 rods reusable?

Is it worth reusing the stock rods?

A 3.905 bore is considered max by many people.

The stock rods are good rods.

Since you are doing a rebuild put a set of good bolts in them and you will have a really good set of rods.

do they make a piston that bore? I am glad to hear that about the rods.I am going with a 228/228 at .588 lift cam with ported ls6 heads and six speed. Or are there better cam reccomendations?

Diamond makes a piston this size, and many others. Many of the sponsors carry them. I have the Diamonds.

That cam is a good cam although I have not seen too many posts of people using that combination of lobes. Usually a 228/224 or a traditional split. I've seen plenty of 420RWHP+ cars with a 228 intake duration and whatever exhaust duration reverse split or traditional.

By the way I am running LS6 heads, 6-speed, and a larger cam. I just got my motor finished. I'm dyno tuning it today.

awesome, hope it pulls some good numbers for you. How much do a set of diamond pistons usually cost that you have seen. I know I need to research this more but the message board is quite abit easier. Thanks for the info and lets hear some numbers later on

Check out any of the board sponsors. Many of them carry these. I don't remember what I paid.

Give me a call. I have pistons on the shelf for a stock stroke, stock rod, 3.905 bore. You can also call Thunder Racing, they are the largest LS1 dealer for us. They will most likely have these pistons in stock too.

Thanks,
Chris Gelineau
