Default Best/Strongest Springs

Just bought a MTI stealth ll cam: specs 220/224 581/581/ 116
I heard the 918 springs break..Should I get the PSI 1511s or PAC 1218s or..?
Do I use stock pushrods?
I have 42k miles on car should I get a new timing chain and LS6 oil pump?
Am I missing anything?
Thanks

if you have the money/time pushrods/pump/chain couldnt hurt... i guess pushrods might not be necessary.

as far as springs idk ive always got mine matched with a cam

Patriot Gold Dual springs, LS2 timing chain, hardened pushrods, TSP ported LS6 oil pump, and ASP underdrive pulley are what you need for cam swaps.

Not necessarily. Depending on the application some of those may or may not be needed. Beehive springs will work extremely well in most applications and many times dropping the pan to change the chain and oil pump is not needed. A rundown of the particular cars mileage and intended use would be beneficial to determine what is truly needed and what things would be nice if you can afford it. nIn this case, being an 01 with less than 50K that would be a budget issue.

I'm doing a complete rebuild with a LQ4. I doing all of the above. I would recommend doing it also.

Comp 918's will be fine. They had a bad batch come out a long time ago, but the issue has been corrected. Those springs are good to .600 lift. Pushrods are opinionated, some use stockers, alot use hardened. Stockers will bend if to high an RPM is reached, hardened ones will take more abuse, but if too much, they will shatter. Underdrive pulleys are purely preference. Personally, I think its a waste. Lifters are a concern with a higher mileage vehicle, you will be fine. Oil pump is not mandatory. If it makes you feel better, get it. Its a ***** to install however.

i heard good things with comp 1518 springs. but u have to upgrade pushrods as u will bend one(stock) with the extra spring pressures. thats why the make Hardend PR's

I use only a double spring on the 565 in the race car with an almost .800 lift camshaft...they are PSI springs.

Shift it at 7, come out of the burn out box singin at 7400 lol.

Both are good springs though.

I would definately do pushrods and new valve seals as well.

Check out the springs that Livernois Motorsports sells used a set of their .690 lift springs a few months ago. Awesome product and will definitely be buying more from them in the future. They are available in just spring sets and kits with titanium retainers.

My recommendation PAC 1518 installed at 1.800 height.

How far do you plan on spinning that SSII? I used to run one and unless you want to rev till 6800, better advance it +4*

It would therefore be 224/220 .581/.581 116+4 LSA
7.425 pushrods

The PSI 1511ML's are great springs. The PAC 1518's are also great springs. Both have surface treatments for longer life. The PAC 1218's are good springs but don't have the same surface treatments as the 1518's, which is worth the extra coin in my book.

Setup is critical with any spring and to maximize life and ensure that seat forces are correct you should plan on the time and tools for correct setup. Don't just slap in springs without measuring.

For pushrods, first ensure the rocker geometry is correct and then measure for springs. Don't buy pushrods now, buy an adjustable so the valve train can be correctly set up.

I would replace the timing chain. As for the pump, depends on the year.

Eh, it's not a complete waste. My car gained 6rwhp/10rwtq.

IMO i wouldnt run the 918's they still break. i dont care how good of luck you have had with yours... mine and my friends broke a 918 in our car. with a cam no where near the .600 limit. comp is still having bad batches. unless u want to put a new motor in your car. Play it safe and get a dual spring or atleast a different behive spring.

The PAC 1518 springs are a good choice for a single beehive spring ... or you can go to PRC or Patriot duals for more piece of mind.

There's the operative word in that sentence.

That's inaccurate information, and your opinions shouldn't be pronounced as facts.

I think all the other questions in this thread have been thoroughly answered.
