Drawbacks to stroking
There is nothing at all wrong with a slightly under square motor (more stroke than bore). As long as you build to suit that architecture you will have a killer motor. Now, don't go and put a 4.25" crank in a 4.8L block; it will never breathe because of the small bore (Think old school 305-307). Try to keep the bore and stroke within .125" if each other. A 3.898" LS1 block with a 4" stroke is fine. A 4" bore LS2/iron block and 4.100" stroke is also fine. They will perform and last. Just do it already!

on the serious side the 402 or 408 route is pretty much worth it.
