Inspecting/refreshing an ls1 bottom end?
Need to pick up a motor for my 98 TA. When buying a used shortblock, is there anything you can look for besides the obvious crosshatching in the cylinder walls? I will probably replace the cam bearings as a safety precaution. Can I take the car to a machine shop and have them check bearing tolerances and replace as necessary? Anything else I should look for or do while I have the shortblock apart?
People always claim low mile motors but you never know, not to mention engine condition is not always based on miles.
