Default 1998 LS1 vs 2000 LS1

I am wondering what are the differences in the 98 to 00 motors is it just the cam??

I blew my 2000 LS1 up and thinking about putting a 98 in it I just dont want to lose power if I dont have to

Ok well, by blew up, do you mean you broke something in the bottom end?
If so, all the different parts ( that some would say are inferior ), will swap over so you should end up with basically the same engine.

98 cam is slightly bigger( you'll never notice) and has perimeter valve cover bolts. everybody tries to knock 98's but the simple truth is they are damn near identical to 99-02. if both motors are healthy the difference in power between a 98 and 02 would be less than 10hp i'd bet

the 01-02 had the ls6 intake, with no egr, should be good for 5whp. Plus the cam in the 01-02 were were less lift, but ground on a a 115.5 lsa compared to 119 wich helped give a boost in the low end. I thought 98-00 ls1 were the same?

Which truck motor? I read the stickies but still was unsure will a LQ9 or LQ4 motor drop right in and ifso what are the advantages of each?

01-07 lq4 or lq9, both will drop in and all sensors are the same, will have to reuse your oil psi sensors, but goes in same location. and need to drill and tap for alt bolt.
more ci, better heads.

if your wanting to boost it get the lq4, its the same engine as the lq9, but has dished pistons. i know guys running 15-16psi on stock truck motors on a race gas tune and 10-12 all day on pump gas. if your not gonna boost it i would stay with the ls1 block to save that weight. i have a lq4 in my car and love it except its heavy on the nose and harder to hook on the street now. it hooks fine at the track, just not on the street....

IMO any v8 can handle a 150 shot. im sure someone will say oh no, i know so and so who did this and killed his engine. bla bla bla. but yes it will handle it. i hit mine with 175 often. you will put your complete accessory drive over on the truck engine. the water pump is the big differance for needing to do this. just use your crank pulley and everything off the front of your engine, swap it over and good to go.

Well I am looking around and found a lq9 whats the difference other then the dished pistons??

I'm thinking about just keeping the car in the driveway till I have the time and money to come out with my boosted car. I'm only looking to make 500 orso to the wheels through my stalled auto is it doable?

its less than 100lbs. extra weight, i dont see any diff. in my car handling wise, just mo powa
even in my uncs c5 with a lq4 turbo, it did not affect any or make any difference handling wise, again just mo powa and the weezing noises.

I am still unsure which to go for I am thinking turbo,I like the fact that with a turbo I can make it not spool till I want

My Idea:

Turbo 7 PSI
intercooled
turbo kicks in at 3800
A4 lauch the car at 3500

the turbo is more efficient and gas saving plus I won't always be in boost

Anyone think this is a bad idea, I would guess the total cost to build would be about 8 grand plus tuning, sound about right?
