rivets on oil pan gasket

Exclamation rivets on oil pan gasket

are the rivets neccesarry when replacing the oil pan gasket?

Not unless you need a 3rd hand to hold the gasket in place while you install the bolts.

They are there for ease of assembly at the engine plants. I guess the oil pan robot couldn't keep the gasket in place while starting the oil pan bolts....

no. They are just there to keep the gasket straight on the pan.

Sheeeeet, I use rivets on everything! I don't even use bolts to hold down my rockers. Yep, you guessed it. RIVETS!!!!

In all seriousness though, you don't need to install new rivets with the new gasket. Just be careful when you're drilling them out.
