Default Lsx 454

Bulding a 454 LXS for my Z28 98, I want it as a weekend street car but i dont know how high of a crank stroke I wanna go or the Con rod length. I dont want to go to high on the stroke to lose the RPMs or to low to lose the torque, Whats the happy medium? 4.100 crank with 6.000 con rods?

Thank You

4.100 stroke need 4.195 bore for 453.3 or round off to 454.
with 4.1 crank and 6.00 rods will need 1.2 compression height pistons for a 9.24 deck motor. with .010+ protuding pistons.
assuming engine is assembled correctly with proper clearances, correct machining and assembly and premium parts.
5125 fps piston speed or 7500rpm is not out of the question with such an engine for max effort runs. street use 6,500rpm is not a problem

Now are you using it for street use or stip? cause i thought with a stroke like that you will have the torque but ur rpm range is shorten

With a 6 inch rod the trigger wheel clearance and balancing will be problematic. Your best bet is the 6.125 rod or switching into the tall deck block and getting more rod length in the engine.

both, it's just a toy, not a dedicated race car, more of an extreme street car. i'm not worried about spinning it to the moon. as long as it's not on the rev limiter when i cross the line at the track i'll be happy.

No the RPM range will not shorten. We do a 460 with a 4.135 bore x 4.250 stroke as well and rev it to 7200 rpms.

choose the block and piston wisely to insure it has the correct clearance at bdc. Some blocks do not have enough sleeve to really do it right.
