Default 4.020" bore?

So I acquired a used lq4 block. I deglazed/honed the cylinders with a home hone tool. Measured the bore and it's 4.020". The block must have been previously bored to 20 over before I got it. I was wondering if I should try to go 10 over more with the tool or just take it to the shop to get it to 30 over? I don't want to spend $250 to get it to 30 over and don't wan't to order custom pistons either because this is a budget build. Anyone ever had to deal with this?

You have almost no chance of getting a good straight .010 hone job done. You will be way ahead having it bored and honed by a machine shop then trying this and ruining your block.

Or try diamond pistons if the bores are good customs might not be so much more than off the shelf .030 pistons if you figure in the price of machine work. You basically have $250.00 extra for customs if you dont have to spend it on machine work.Just a thought.

you can have it honed .010. when i bore i leave .007 to hone out so i can center my bore eaiser. i usually just hone even .020 depending on cylender taper. if you have a locking hone you can do it yourself. do not try it with a ball hone (they are just a glaze breaker).

i have found with the 99-04 blocks its almost pointless to torque plate hone them. the threads are all the way at the bottom of the cylender lol.

thts a fair price for a .010 hone.
might as well take to .030 and use overbore new pistons.

I don't know if I would want to hone 10 over without a plate. They sais something like 60 or 70 for hone and 155 with torque plate. A different shop said 120 with plate. Think it would be a good idea to line hone since I'm using studs now? The shop also said that it would be a good idea to check the rods for $65 and it would be another 25 if they needed to be machined
