Default Higher C/R and More Power with Heads/Cam

I have a stock lq9 now and am probably gonna do a head/cam combo. I have done some research but still cannot make a decision. I was thinking about getting a set of 317's milled down or should I go with a set of ls6 heads with small ports? I am looking for good power gains and want a healthy powerful n/a motor. I just have to do it in stages. I don't mind a rough idle cam either. I can swap intake manifolds and swap converters. It just depends on the combo I go with. Any suggestions?

I've seen some LS6 stg 2.5 and 3 heads make killer power on 6.0s when paired with the right cam. A nice size cam, i.e. Torquer 3, will do good in a 6.0 with those heads, or you could always go the custom route too.

Do you have 317's or 243's already or will you be buying heads?

I have 317s on it. I am loosing compression and have to figure out if it is the heads or rings. If it is the heads then I was thinking of getting new ones ore machining the ones I have. I am trying to do this as cheap as possible though. I can get a TB and manifold setup a bit later when cash is more available. The truck has 66k and is an 03. I used to have a radix on it and only sprayed it 3 times with a 50 shot. It has been running lean, but I just don't see how it would be the rings?
