There probably are heads out there better suited for the 3.9" bore than the L92 heads. However, if you already have some of the parts then it might be worth trying to make the L92 heads work on a 3.9" bore. Also, if you wanted to run an LSA/LS9 TVS supercharger or a later style intake manifold, you would need to use an L92/L76?LS3 etc style head.

Then again, if you can get a set of small bore L92 heads made for under a $1,000... it might turn out to be a good alternative.

Well the only "BLOWER" I want is sitting right in front of me so that answer is not applicable in many situations......

Right. Yeah, there's only a "slight" price difference between factory L92 heads and AFR or TFS heads.

I think why the OP is asking is because these heads are so cheap. It's unfortunate that they do not work on the LS1/LS6 blocks. I'd have them on my motor if they would fit!!

Default Again I keep hearing no,no ,no. Prove it.

With all the members in these forums, is there no one with a stock ls1 and L92 heads around that could stick them on, put some putty on the piston and cylinder wall, rotate the engine with light tension valve springs, and see where this "contact" is or how close it comes to the wall?
I went to my local engine builder today, who has over 25 years experience and he cant see how a head would work on a 4.00 block and not a 3.900. Although he does not have too much experience with the very latest L92 heads, he said there was only .050" on each end, and reliefs could be cut at the top of the cylinder bores and using slightly larger bore cylinder head gaskets like they used to do on the 396 big blocks.
Why can't anyone prove this?
I hope I dont see another post here just saying, no, it can't be done.
PLEASE! Mock it up , measure and take digital pics, and verify why it cant be done, once and for all!

the valve need to be 2.08"

thats how mast motorsports does it. they'll work, but you just need to install new seats and valves.
