Default cam lift question

how much lift can you get on a cam without having to cut the pistons for clearance?

I'd also like to know for both LS1 and LS6.

Thanks.

Theres several other things other than just camshaft lift that factor into PtV clearance.

Very very true, if you had a specific set up in mind im sure someone in here could chime in. But you have to factor in if the heads are milled or not, gasket thickness, valve size, what rockers you are using, and probably the most important one here would be the duration of the cam as well. The longer the valves are open the more prone they will be to ptv clearance issues.

Not to thread jack but I am talking about a bone stock LS1 and a stock LS6 with OEM everything. What is the largest cam you can install without fly cutting the pistons?

Depends more a cam Duration and Centerlines then lift. Heads, gaskets, valves, rockers, etc... also plan a role in this as well.

Duration and centerline are more important than lift for clearance as full lift occurs when the piston is already about halfway down. There are just too many variables to throw out a number.

Look at the specs of the Trex/Polluter/ MS4 etc.... as they are about as big as you can go on a stock bottom/heads car.

Ok, I have a bone stock LS6. Would I have to fly cut to run a 580/590 236/242 on a 112 LSA?

What LSA and advance you thinking.

Really you can prolly get a faster car with a smaller cam with more under the curve power unless you are gonna run a huge stall or do 6k clutch dumps..... which breaks ****.....

I just had in mind using stock rockers and stock thickness gaskets with LS6 heads and a TR224 cam, which i believe is 224/224 .563/.563, but the question is not really for me its for my dad, but im not sure what cam he was planning on using.
