Default 12 O'clock & 12 O'clock...not DOT to DOT...cam install confirmation needed

I searched & replies were all over the place.

Please confirm that w/the #1 piston @ TDC on the COMPRESSION stroke, both the CAM DOT & the CRANK DOT are in the 12 O'clock postion. This is the correct orientation, cam to crank.

DOT to DOT ocurrs @ the bottom of the #1 piston stroke.

NO!!!

Cam gear dot in the 6 O'Clock position and crank gear dot in the 12 O'Clock position is dot-to-dot.
As in the dots are as close to each other as possible.

So, w/ #1 piston @ "TDC," Cam dot is 6 O'clock & crank gear @ 12 O'clock. OK, got it, thanks for the reply. I appreciate the help.

Yes. You were at TDC on the exhaust stroke. Its 6 o clock cam and 12 o clock crank just like stated for TDC on compression stroke.

With both the crank gear and cam gear dots at 12 o clock, the engine will start and run just fine.

Well, without incodent anyway; like 4 cylinders on & 4 off & a bit out of balance. No interference though, as you have noted.

Thats exactly correct. The cam spins once for every 2 rotations of the crank, hence the reason why the cam gear is exactly twice as big. Every other rotation of the crank (when its on 12 o clock) the cam is at 12 o clock, and then the following rotation the cam comes back to 6 o clock as the crank comes back to 12 o clock.
