typical cost to hone, and assemble short block
typical cost to hone, and assemble short block i think i have some bad rings. so im getting ready to take the engine out and take it apart. trying to figure out what its going to cost me. i want to take it to the machine shop have them hone it out and then re-install the crank, rods, pistons with the new rings. thanks in advanced

We would be happy to help you with your short block!! To give you an idea you are looking in the range of $700.00. That is labor only to hone your block and reassemble the short block. Depending on the condition of the block we "might" not be able to get away with just a hone. Depending on what bore you are at now there is a chance we will need to go with an over size piston. If we have to do that you will be out the cost of the pistons and roughly $225.00 to rebalance the rotating assembly.
Now, with that being said we would inspect your block before we started work to make sure there where no suprises to you and call you with specs and email you with pictures if there was any extra machine work needed.
A few things that you will need to go along with this is: New bearings, rear main seal, and a few coolant and oil galley plugs. We can help you with all the parts also!! Let me know if I need to get you a quote on the seals, bearings, plugs and rings!!

I got quoted like $150 for hone and decking the top of the block. Like $30 to clean the block. $200 for assembly, and $200 for balance. Also, I would consider milling the heads flat while they are off. Local guy milled my heads to my spec, did a valve job, and did a full assembly of both heads for an out the door price of $150. I dropped off new valve seals with the heads. Here they are. you should consider this also since the motor is coming apart.
Machine work cost varies DRASTICALLY based on location. Here in the midwest you can get out the door for about 50-60% of what the same work would cost on either of the coasts (in my experience anyway). I paid less than $400 to have my block tanked, bored/honed with tq plate, decked, line bore checked, crank polished, and rotating assembly balanced. Try that in Cali.
