Default need rebuild parts list.....everyone take a look

Ok…..its rebuild time (buring WAY too much oil) and I need to list all the parts needed to rebuild the bottom end (head and valve train are good). I’m doing a 0.010” bore on my 01 block, replacing the pistons with forged units, reusing the stock crank and rods (though with better bolts/studs in everything), and reusing my ported LS6 pump (ported the stock unit).

The block will be stripped down to a complete bare case (freeze plugs, oil plugs, etc. removed), hot tanked, all the casting lines (flashing) ground off for better oil return and stress relief, machined, and then reassembled.

Here is the list I have made so far:

Pistons
Pistons rings
Head gaskets
Exhaust manifold gaskets (already have)
water pump gasket
ARP rod bolts
ARP main studs
Rod bearings
Main bearings
cam shaft bearings
ARP crank bolt (already have)
ARP flywheel bolts
Rear main seal
Front main seal
Rear cover gasket
Front cover gasket
Freeze plugs (what size are these and where do I get them?)

Is there anything else I’m missing? I thought there were some little oil galley plugs in the rear of the block (part number?).

Finally, where can I get some bottoming taps to fit all the bolt holes in the block (head bolt, main bolt, etc....)?

Thanks guys

edit: I added the cam shaft bearings and water pump gasket. I already have a Rollermaster double chain and ARP 12point head studs.

anything else?

head studs
water pump gaskets
head gaskets
timing chain with gears
assembly lubes
6 cans of brake cleaner
1 can of triflow

And remember to keep lifters and rockers in order. I am sure there will be some little detail that is over looked, but that should about cover it.

For taps, use an old bolt with the sides shaved flat to chase the threads.

If you're rebuilding the hwole bottom end, and spending 70$ on ARP bolts, spend a few hunderd for the Eagle rods... and they already come with ARP bolts. The stock rods will be a weak link if you're planning on running any kind of RPM, and while plenty of people make good power with ARP bolted stock rods... if one does fail, there goes your entire bottom end including the block.

Freeze plugs you dont need.

Cam bearings if the bottom end had any kind of mileage on it.

Thanks for the heads up on the freeze plugs. I'm used to old school small blocks and big blocks that have freeze plugs for the casting holes so I just assumed the LS1 had them too (never actually LOOKED for them when I was working on my car).

I'm sticking with the stock rods for:

1) money
2) I'm not going past 6500

I just reread your first post. If you hot tank the block you will need new cam beasrings for sure. Also, a new timing chain add to the list.

what about those oil-galley plugs at the rear of the block?
