Default Keep LS1 Block or Get a New Motor

I just found out my number 7 piston has a hole in it and is causing a severe misfire. My car has 104k on it. Basically bone stock. Will the LS1 block be fine to rebuild or should I buy a short or long block and start new?

I would get a good running pull out short-block. Either an LS1 or LQ9. You will find that they are rather proud of the LQ9s. Then just swap all your stuff over. Thats what I did. And you can sell your block and crank and whatever else you dont use.

The block will need to be cleaned & inspected.

If there's no damage you'd be fine with a hone to 3.905" and rebuild from there.

You'd need to look at the cost of the strip-down, check, hone, new set of pistons, bearings, pumps, gaskets etc. compared to buying a decent iron block LQ4 and stripping the LS1 of the parts needed to get the LQ4 car-ready.

The LS1 should be fine for a rebuild, you can stroke it to a 383 for very short money.
The 6.0 is cheap but not as cheap as the block you already have.

Most power will come with a 6.0. Not tons of money but tons of power possible. The rebuild/stroke of your current motor will net good power, probably be a bit less expensive. Your call.

Get an LQ4/LQ9 and sell yours
I actually have an extra LS1 piston, so let me know if you want it to complete your engine

You can net plenty of power out of a 383. The stock block for the LS1 is rated to 1K hp so if you go 383 go forged, & boost there is plenty of HP on tap there for you.

6.0 iron ... because it allows the L92 heads option if you want to ... safer for nitrous or forced induction the the future if you want to.
