Default Stock bottom end ('98)

This is sorta a multiple question thing but since i really want to have more opinions about the bottom end thing i figgure this is the best place to be. My car still has the stock bottom end in it w/ only 37,000 and was wondering how well everyone w/ a '98 has held up. i know that the bottom isnt the strongest in the world and could go when introduced to Higher RPM's. A few of my friends w/ '98's and have bigger set ups than me have been fine well up to 6500. I am getting a 12-bolt from someone who has a set of 4.30's installed and will be adding a cam (not huge by today standards 227/224 112) I want to get the tuning done but i'm a little leary of how high i'll have to spin this thing to stay in 4th in the 1/4 w/ the 4.30's. I may opt to change them out to a 4.10 to keep the RPM's down rigth now. I am also on a BFG 255 16 rigth now for tire size.

My 98 SS's engine is still bone stock - well I did have to replace some bent push rods . I have most of the bolt on. Todate no problems yet, know on wood.

Upgrades to the engine are in the near future.

Times are in signature.

Your block will be fine. 98 motors are not inferior to the other years. My old 98 motor kicked ***...

I agree for the most part Damian, but I think the 01+ cars got better rod bolts than the earlier cars.

This is true. I forgot about that. 01+ cars got a higher tensile strength rod bolt to help with slinging rods.

friend of mine bought a used 98 ss that was stock with like 80,000 miles on it. he put long tubes ,4.10's , moser axles (after he broke one), air lid, and lanes true duals. right after he put the duals on he threw a rod out the bottom! he swears the duals did it but he couldnt stay out of the rev limiter. thats why it went, oh and the fact that it was probably a grocery getter its entire life before he got it.

Mine's a '98 and I've had no problems so far. I've taken it up to 6,800 rpm with no problems. I just got a set of Patriot S2 5.3's and think i'll change the oil pump for less headaches.
