Which would idle better? I found good deals on both and figure they would probably give about the same power.
B1 221/221 .558/.558 114
MMS 218/218 .561/.561 114

I had the MMS 218 in my 2001 WS6 A4 and I loved it. It idled great and pulled 377rwhp/366rwtq (SAE) with stock heads and bolt-ons. It ran a best of 11.90@112.89 with a 1.65 60'.
The car never surged or stalled with a 750 idle in gear. This is a great stealth cam with 1 degree of retard ground in to move the power band up to a 6300rpm peak.

Other things being equal, I would expect the cam with the least duration to idle best, so the 218. The fact that it has more lift will not affect the idle much. LSA makes a big difference also, but both cams are the same. But on the other hand, the B1 won't have that bad of an idle either, but it will make more power, so I'd go with it.

Is there any way to describe the idling difference these two cams have? If there is not that much of a difference i will probably go with the B1 for more power. But i don't want the car surging at all.

I have a B1. My car has been tuned and my idle is set at 800rpm. The car surges a little on warm starts in park (and just a tad on cold starts sometimes), but it doesn't surge while idling in or out of gear, and no surging while driving or anything.
I have yet to see an LS1 car with any cam in this range or bigger not do some surging on start-up. I guess maybe with enough time spent on tuning you might be able to all but eliminate it, but it's really not a big deal to be honest. It only lasts a few seconds.

I just installed a B1 in my 98 A4. The B1 would not idle with the stock idle speed of 550 in gear. Don't know if the 218 cam would either. Bought Edit, raised the idle to 800 along with some timing & idle air changes. After Edit, the only surging is for a few seconds on startup but no stalling. As for power I would think the B1 would be better with it's longer duration. Will have track times soon.
