lq9 317 heads: MS3, TREX, or Raptor???
Well, since my ported 60 cc heads will give me stupid compression on a stock 6.0L (11.8-12.09), I have to put them on the shelf until I have money for a real motor again...
That being said, I have a 45k mile complete Lq9 that I am going to put a cam in and call it a day for a few years until my $400/week daycare bill goes away...
I am trying to pick the biggest cam that will work with stock heads and make the most power. I think the 3 above will fit.... but not positive.
Here are the specs on the car:
2000 Z28
SS3600
FLT level 4
12 bolt with 3.73 (have 4.11 also that I can put in if needed)
long tubes
no cats
4" mufflex
lid
pulley
T-stat
ported ls6 intake
ported TB
Full suspension
I am hoping for ~420ish rwhp with this combo
Anybody running this and what do you think??
Car is a toy. I plan to take it to work once in a while, occasional road trip, cruise nights, drag strip..... when I drive it, I plan to run it hard most of the time.
I was leaning towards the Raptor since it has better PTV than the T Rex. I don't know enough about the MS3 yet or other potentially better options.
I don't think I have enough stall for the Trex.
Thank you

Shouldnt have any problems getting 420+ with any of those cams.
My LQ4 got 398rwhp with an ASA cam and 317 heads.
Saving up for new heads and maybe a different cam. Going with some sort of 243 59cc or 64cc head.... Still debating.
If I do a different cam it will be the MS3.

Ended up going with a custom cam from EPS that Geoff spec'd out for me. I'll report back after every thing is back together and running. He really took the time to go over my car, mods, and goals. He spec'd the cam for me based off of that and being safe on the piston to valve clearance as well. Very similar to what he offers and the TR cams.

Kind of bumping an old thread but I thought it'd better than starting a new one. What cam did you end up using?
I was thinking of getting a custom cam but an not exactly an expert. It's going to be an otherwise bone-stock LQ9 w/ 317 head in front of a 200-4r and 3.73 gears and a 3200ish stall. Was planning to put some l92s on (and still might) but for now school money is more important. Like the OP, the car is a toy but I'm mainly looking for a deep nasty sound, slow idle and around-town street manners. *****-out power isn't a huge concern as the torque and dcently low 1st of my trans should be fine for now. I had found a video of the idle I was looking for and will try to dig it up.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a good grind and company to go with? I'm trying to do research but I'm still at a point where I don't truly understand what I'm reading. 22X/22X seems to be mentioned fairly often.
Thanks in advance.
