Exclamation Tip of plug broke off!!! Misfire and white smoke

Car started missing last night..Pulled the plug this morning and found that the tip of the plug was broken off..Put another plug in and still misfiring..Its getting spark with the new plug but is still smoking and reading "misfire cylinder 5"

Any ideas on WTF could be going on?? Could something internally messed up due to the tip of the plug breaking off??

EDIT :: BLUE SMOKE (which is oil correct??)

You _REALLY_ need to get that tip out. There is no way for it to fall into the oilpan because the Piston is right there under it and is most likely bouncing around scratching the **** out of your block. I suggest pulling the head so you can check for any problems that could have occurred. I suggest NOT starting the car until you can get the head off and check. You could get "lucky" with a magnet or something and fish it out through the spark plug hole, but you need to check for damage.

Im going to go with the post above and say you should prob pull the head. With it bouncing around and getting slammed into the valves/block/piston could have really damaged that cylinder.

Check the compression and see what is going on. If the compression is ok do a leakdown test. Sounds like something broke and damaged the plug. Sounds like its time to pull the HEAD. But do a compression test anyway. White smoke is definately NG. TOM

fill the headlight fuild, some times its get low.

But what could happen (ok what did) is the plug got damaged from you melting or knocking the land off the piston. And that piston is now fucked, sorry to hear.

ring land or a hole in the piston. Either or. Pull the head.

1st do a compression test, might be both sides.

Checked the headlight fluid it seemed fine

This was posted by my buddy who has a 02 Escalade. Its the LQ4 6.0 Vortec motor with a Paxton blower.

Guess he was hauling *** last night and the trans didn't shift and it was pegging rev limiter right before this all happend. Following this he drove approximately 10 miles before finally shutting it off for the night.

Went and checked it out tonight and it is most definitely internal problems. I don't even think a compression check is needed LOL..The coil pack, plug wire, and plug have all been changed with it still throwing the same misfire code.

What the hell would cause the electrode to break off like that though? Would the lifter have snapped it off due to the over rev?

Let us know what you find and snap some pics when you pull the head off.

sounds like the motor was run lean. debris(pieces of the rings) knocked the spark plug tip off.

Every time that I have pulled a broken plug out or even one with a crushed strap, it's always the ringland right at the valve relief. Just pull the head. Don't bother with the compression check.

My buddy got it checked out today and they told him "the piston shattered and cracked the walls"

Guessing there talking about the cylinder walls..Would this mean he has to get an entirely new block? or could a bore of the cylinders do the trick? Probably depends on how bad it is correct?

i just had the same thing happen to the GTO. no good way to do it with out breaking the bank. if the blocks junk just start over. if its not you could just throw some forged pistons in it and check the tune and fuel system to see why it leaned out. def has to be a melted or broken ring land.

my fix. 454lsx. NA power all the way. that **** wont happen again. 15k later i wont burn anymore pistons from running to lean under boost.

damn 15k is breakin my bank haha, Im not sure if i should stick with a stock block since im only running around 4lbs of boost. Or if I should buy a stoker kit and put forged internals. Im not really planning on raising the boost. I need something reliable since its my dd.

haha yea 15k is kinda expensive, id say your stock block with 4psi wont be a problem at all. you burned the pistons for a reason though. id look into what caused it to happen before i went a built another motor. forged pistons would be as far as i would go on your dd. i mean your not beating it all day every day. thats just my opinion though. mine only ran about 8k miles before my mistake. it was just one line thats all it took.

you can build the motor you have for alot les than 15k. you could do rod bolts,(rods if you wanted) pistons and never have to worry about it again even if you wanted to put more boost on it. id just double check your tune and make sure you arnt leaned way out at WOT.
