2002 LS1 Motor
I found a guy that said he has a 46k mile LS1. He said water was sucked into the motor and bent the #8 rod. He wants $500 for it. Its complete from oil pan to intake and includes engine harness. My question is, is the motor going to be rebuildable with a bent #8 rod or could more be wrong? He said it is still assembled.
Thanks,
Corey

yea my dads buddy owns his own buisness and said he would be very leary. he said the crank is probably toast and would need all bearings; he said i could buy a rotating assemby and build what I really want cheaper and with less headaches. I think i am going to pass.

As long as the connecting rod is bent and not broken, this is a good deal. Like mentioned make sure that piston isnt cracked, i bought an ls1 with part of the #7 piston cracked off and it cracked the sleeve which cracked the block too. So if nothing is broken jump on it! You could easily get your money back out of it by selling those parts.

500$ ls2?
hi, just bought said motor for 400$. the motor has set for at least four years in his garage with no spark plugs in the heads also has a broken starter bolt boss half the threads are still there. was told it came from a trans am. how do I tell if its a ls2? will pull apart this weekend & see about the bent rod. has complete wire harness for t56, coils, tb, etc. my question is this a
a good intake for my 5.3? the injectors have set for a long time.

ive had 2 friends suck water in the engine and kill their ls1's this way
both of them broke off the bolts for the starter also
when it sucks the water up into the engine it shut the motors off
when they tried to re crank it ..... rings the starter off
theres a reason they replaced the motors in them
id say you have $400 in nothing

one mans junk is another mans treasure
you may be right... but seeing I,m putting a 5.3 in my 31 roadster all these parts are valuable to me. I will save money on reworking ls1 wire harness compared to my 5.3 one in just connectors for the injectors. need the ls1 pan so saved another 200$. the intake manifold will save me even more. the coil packs & brackets save even more
the harmonic balancer will save me also plus the tb & ls1 bracket for alt and and etc. plus met a very nice guy who sold me the engine.
so as I see it I came out way ahead and have all ls1 parts from same engine for my swap. instead of buying pieces one at time from ebay that don't match
