Default Thoughts on TSP 228r?

Someone told me the TSP 228r cam is a good cam that is not as noticeable. I like to keep my car a sleeper so I don't want the choppy idle. Anybody have this cam and what are your thoughts on it, sound, power, etc. If I change the cam I might throw on some tsp ported ls6 heads or tsp cnc 215s, not sure about it. Plan on spraying or putting the aps kit with upgraded turbos on. Motor is a 02 ls1 with 241 heads, bone stock engine. Let me know your thoughts on cam choice and is it nitrous or turbo friendly. Thanks.

116 lsa would be more like it ..if im not mistaken they are selling one on this board right now... its a pretty mild cam that would wake ur car up with supporting bolt ons and is also very street friendly

determine if you want spray or boost.

spray likes compression...boost doesn't

then figure out your head choice.

that cam is a good one for all over power, and with good heads it will really perform. but even on a 114 lsa...it will be noticable

The 228/228 cam is a nice street cam. Nice power gains and drives perfect. My buddy had one in his car that just broke a spring and lost his engine.

Unless your spraying a big shot, you don't need a nitrous specific grind. If your uncertain on the route your gonna go as far as the turbo is concerned, just get what fits the bill now and swap cams later if you do go with the turbo.

As far as being a sleeper cam, no way.

Not a chance in hell! Click the link in my SIG for the idle of a 228/230 on a 114.

A completely deff guy could tell you have a cam with the 228 grind ... it is a good cam choice but it is not going to be at all.

The 228R is a good all-round camshaft. It makes good useable power without effecting driveability much if any at all. However, even on a 114 LSA w/ aftermarket exhaust, you will be able to listen and hear the cam in the car. If you are looking for a sleeper cam this probably isn't what you are looking for. It is a nice street/strip cam with good manners but you will know it has a cam in it. If you want a sleeper, let me know and we can do a custom cam to try and get you fixed up with some extra HP without the sound.

I have the 228r in my car and it's a great street/mild strip cam. it has great drivablity and is a monster out of the hole. as far as a sleeper cam goes def not, mine was grinded on a 111 lsa and w the cutout open it chopps pretty hard. w supporting mods n a few bolt ons and 90/90 my car made

I have it and love it, its very obvious and obnoxious with a cutout and a 112lsa, but if you got a 114 or 116lsa with a quiet exhaust I would imagine you could would sound stock and the powerband is great. Says lower but my power band pulls right to around 6800 and down low it almost feels stock.

Thanks guys. I know any cam I go with that gets good gains will be a little noticeable. Usually I wouldn't care and would want it to sound off but not with this car, I have heard some where it sounds stock but has a little lope so the average person can't tell if it does or not, cause some stock cars sound a little like that. That is what I am looking for. As far as power adders I am leaning more toward turbos just cause the fact of having to deal with filling bottles and all of that. If anybody has any videos of the cam, I would appreciate it if you could post a link or something.

Well if you're gonna go forced induction....talk to someone about getting a turbo-oriented grind. I know most of the time they are smaller than even the 228. But you don't want a cam that's gonna be noticeable....so why would you want a turbo??? Don't you think the wicked sound of your BOV is gonna be noticeable? And the sound of it spooling up? Lol

I just installed this cam last spring & I do like the driveablilty & power it makes. Mine is on a 114 lsa, & it does have a mild lope to it, even more after the GMMG exhaust. I alomst wish I wouldve went just a lil bigger like a torquer 2 but I am throwin some trickflows at it & that should wake it up nice. I think you will like this cam though, especially with a nice set of heads.

Yea, I think I would like the cam from what I have and as far as turbos being noticeable it will be all over before they realize that.

I picked up 44 rwhp when I just had headers and exhaust with a 228R LSA 114 from Texas Speed. Totally drivable and relatively easy to tune.
Not much of a 'loping' sound.
Recommend dual valve springs and hardened push rods.
Power peaks and stays flat right up to 6500 rpms.

Biggest h.p. gain of any mod I've done including ported heads.
