Oil Pressure Help
Oil Pressure Help When I start the car in the morning it has perfect oil pressure, then once it warms up it drops down to the lower side of the gauge. The sender behind the manifold has been changed, and when I changed the oil tonight I found a slight amount of metal shavings on the drain plug magnet. I cut the filter open and found no shavings at all. I've been told I have a bearing on the way out anybody have any input?
2001 z28 66k miles, HKE built 346 10k miles Head/Cam, no abnormal noises and runs and drives perfectly normal, not low on oil. Im stumped, when I turn the car off the gauge stays @ about 25 psi though. Could it be the gauge itself?
what is normal oil pressure to you? you say it drops to the low side, but when you start it that the pressure is perfect.
in numbers or on the gauge what do these terms mean?
thickness of oil and oil temp is going to have an affect on the pressure. also the type of pump. stock ls1, stock ls6, ported shimmed ls6, mellings? also if your engine was built loose or tight on clearences.
HKE does good builds, i cant see it being an internal problem.
since it doesnt make noise or anything of that sort. i would say it is safe to assume that the engine as a whole and all its part are getting some/to sufficent oil to keep from failing.

i dont think its anything serious. but electric gauges suck. put a real gauge on it and youll find out exactly what its doing.

this is ironic as hell... same thing happened to me this morning on my way to school. pressure was fine, and then i noticed when i was at a stoplight that my gauge was reading about 25 psi. its normally at 40 psi. but when i start to drive the pressure goes back up to 40. its never done that before.i still have 5w-30 in it from summer, but plan to change to 10-20 while it is cold out. maybe all i need is a oil change.

I replaced the electric gauges's sender today, the old one cracked and caused a massive oil leak. It helped the problem somewhat, but it's still not right. The gauge acts funny like it gets stuck @ times and starts twitching, and when I turn the car off the gauge stays in its position it was in when the car is on. It goes down when I go to start the car the next time. I ordered a mechanical gauge from jeg's and it should be here tomorrow and hopefully that fixes the problem.
