Hate to ask, trade secrets and all...

But what all have you done to the motor?? Im have a 2001 5.3, Im getting ready to drop in my 1966 GTO. I love the sound of the cam.. Sold Im buying it.. What springs and pusg rods did you use?? what esle is one the motor?? Intake and such. If you have it some where else posted please send me the link.

Im also thinking of picking up another 5.3 for my 1976 Trans AM... These motors are so cheap its hard to pass them up at 400 bucks..

Basicly nothing but the cam, headers and Flowmasters. I need to upgrade my clutch. The intake can be purchased at GM and or Edelbrock. They have a few to choose from and they both use the MSD controller. Edelbrock even has a dual four setup. Something I would love to have.

Stage 1 Thumpr

Stage 2 Mother Thumpr

Stage 3 Big Mother Thumpr

I've got the Stage 1 Thumper. Stages 2 and 3 require pushrods and springs.

Hows it going.... Im looking at some PRC 2.5 heads with springs and such, I will call comp to get the right push rods too... I have all of it with a LS6 intaks and 80mm TB. Im hoping to get to the magic 450ish with the tune..

I do need to know what converter to run... this is for my GTO, and Im putting in a 4l60E. I am also building another, 5.3 motor, same configuration, but going to run a 6 speed in my 1976 Trans Am...

As I stated before the pushrods were changed. All Thumpr cams require they be changed. I did not change the lifters because of the low milage of the engine.

Do these cams require a "shorter" or "longer" pushrod? Or do they just require a more robust pushrod?

Its longer and is required. E-mail Mike with Comp Cams for details on your application. I met him at Cruisin the Coast last year in Mississippi. Good guy.

I just emailed mike over at comp cams... I asked for all the part numbers for lifter, cam and push rods, I will share as soon as I get a reply. Thanks to louisianagulf for being patient with us and our 20 questions...

This site helped me quite a bit. Also took a few pics during the install.

did you actually use the thunder racing lifter tool or can any long device be used to hold the lifters up.

Thanks for the info. I am pretty "green" at engine work but have some good friends to steer me the right way.

5/16 wood dowel..... grease it up first $1.49

Read everything on the how to site a couple of times before hand. Like studying for a test. Have your PC or laptop handy if possible. Be careful with the oil pump pickup tube. I read it over for a month before I installed mine.

Here is what I have so far ( I never heard back from Mike at comp cams so I called summit)

COMP CAMS HI ENERGY LIFTERS CHEVY LT1 LT-1 LT4 #850-16

COMP CAMS GM LS1-LS2-LS6 THUMPR CAMSHAFT #54-600-11

COMP CAMS MAGNUM PUSHRODS 7.400" LENGTH, 5/16" #7638-16

It looks like 680 bucks total shipped, not including gaskets.

Im still looking for some cheap(used) prc 5.3 stage 2.5. I have the LS6 intake with ported TB. I also bought a gasket kit with ARP head bolts. Im looking to get minimum 400 rwhp out of this. I will be having a custom tune. I will keep you abreast LOL, I said breast

I don't think you have to have the lifters but the beehive springs.
