Default Bought a 2001 6.0l but.....

I got a 6.0l for a buddy, we took it all down to clean it up and paint it and get it ready to go in his car and i take the flexplate off to find out that it has the longer crank in it. The junkyard swears its 2001 we argued with them for about an hour and finally convinced them that it was their f-up. The motor has aluminum heads, but the older style crank. Whats up with this??? did the 2000 come with aluminum heads? I did some research and it says that 1999-2000 came with iron heads. This one def has the old style crank tho. Shed some light on this for me please!!

i just bought a 6.0 block from "07" and it had the proper crank, but i have heard that 01 and older will have the longer crank. if youre interested, i still have a couple of the correct length cranks. PM me if you need one

With the longer crank it wont mount up to a 4l60e, only a 4l80e. Ive always read on here that it was the 99-00 lq4's that had the longer crank but it said they had Iron heads too. I thought i read somewhere that 2000's had alumn. heads which would make this motor a 2000. It did indeed come out of a 2001 truck, i dont know if it was switched out before it was wrecked or what but its def incorrect.

ive got many 99-00 lq4s and all were iron heads. maybe you got an oddbal motor. or perhaps prebvioys owner upgrade to 317's.
the long crank mate correct with th350/400, 700r4, 2004r, i dont see why it wont mate with a lt1 type 60e.
it may not mate with ls 60e.

anything is possible i guess. ive torn down, machined and rebuilt many 6.0 based motors.
and to date have yet to find a long crank motor with stock alum heads. all the long crank motors were cast iron heads.
