Problems after TSP 231/237 cam
After installing the cam, I have noticed there is a hesitation now and then. Also the ASR light will come on, and the traction control will obviously not be working. I have only started to tune this cam, idle, RAF etc...but there are others with similar problems using this cam. I tried in the tuning section, but no info. Anyone have some ideas to try to get rid of this hesitation, kinda like I am slipping a clutch, you can give it WOT but only accelerates slowly, and the rpms no not indicate WOT as they too climb slowly. After about 3000-3500rpms though its on like Spawn!
TIA.

i just put this cam in last week with stage 2 pp heads tps did my tunning and no problens at all i thought is was running way rich so i hooked up my mass air tranlator and leaned it out ot try that after a little bit of driveing i got a bad hesataion like you describe thought my plugs was fouling out checked them seemed fine, so i put my mass air translator back ot 0 and hesstation whent away right after so your tunning may not be right yet and you running ot lean the cam is a monster tires go up in smoke at 2800 rpm every time and i watch my gas needle go down but i love the combo, and sotty for the spelling

Yeah, check all your coil pack connections, all your spark plugs. After installing this cam my bud and I went for the test drive with one bank unplugged... I was like S*it! this cam SUCKS!!!! But after realizing our stupid mistake, we unleashed the beast.
Anyhow, my ASR also goes on the fritz with this cam. Dunno why.
I also have hesitation at cold starts for the first couple minutes until things warm up.
Just get it tuned and things should be fine.
Also, what size injectors you running?

All connections are good. I always triple check, and went ahead and checked again after reading the replies.
The hesitation could be from being lean, guess I will hook my wideband back up and check things out. Its not all the time, which is wierd, only now and then, and seems to be under heavy part throttle take off. It just acts the clucth is slipping, on an Auto.
I am using 02 injectors, 28.8#, and 918 springs.
Thanks for the support guys, hope to have this puppy out crushing soon, maybe I wil tune it for NA for now.

I cant recall unhooking any ground wires when doing a cam only swap. I did however check this out in case, and they are good. I am posting again in the PCM section maybe some top tuner will chime in and offer some suggestions.

So noone else has any experience with cam causing the trans to shift into 2nd early and not wanting to downshift, until rpms get over about 3500 when launched at a heavy part throttle, around 2200rpms?
I think it can be related to the cam and low manifold vacuum, but only cause the electronic signal has to come from the sensors, into the PCM that tell the shift solenoids when to do their thing. BUT, how to adjust in edit for this??
Chris B, No-Go, Joel, Dragon??????

Have you tried calling Jason at TSP? He did a mail order tune for my car and got it pretty close. It isn't what I'd call "perfect" but it is very drivable. Maybe he can help you over the phone or thru email.

Emailed Jason, and got a blank page back, so replied to his blank reply. Might be one of those binary gremlins.....hoepfully he will be able to shed some light on this. Kinda annoying when you launch from a light and a civic takes you, but once it "clears" the hesitation window....all bets are making me money!

I am 95% certain you are who I spoke to early about this problem when you tried to call. Sorry if you didn't get a hold of Jason today, it was one of those days. Definitely call us in the morning though, Jason should be in at 9:00am Central.

Are you running the new version of ls1edit? Does this car have any dyno tuning, or are you tuning by 02s? Are there any other codes in the pcm? Have you checked Ltrims, IAC? Have you put the car on a dyno?

v1.3, tuning right now for idle only, but also have wideband as I know better then to use O2s. Only code is p0121 I believe, its the throttle circuit too low or performance one. LTFTs are average -4 to -6 and zero out at WOT, IAC is around 35 idle, 113idle in gear. NO the car doesnt go on the dyno, only the track. It has "hit the deadspot" on the track as well as the street.

You have 02 injectors..Dunno if that would make THAT much of a difference but would affect part throttle driving i would think..Scale the injectors with edit and get on the dyno also with a tech 2...The tech 2 would detect if it was a missfire or whatnot..Also check your TPS voltage (not percentage) and make sure that it is set up right or the sensor is atleast still good...But deffinatly find someone with a tech 2 and do some diagnosing..Hope u figure it out....Later,
