Question Question about shifting and rpms...

Hey guys, was wondering if I spun the motor to roughly 6700 or so what it would drop to on a shift? Around 62-6300? The reason I ask is because after seeing the impressive upper rpm gains of the ls6 cam over stock, it's looking like more and more of what I want. With 4.10 gearing in my m6 I don't really want too much more low end on the street (i'm already losing traction in first with nittos) and i'd hit the upper rpms pretty quickly to take advantage of the cam. It's also great on the spray I hear, which is good because once the chicago winter clears up I plan on putting together a 100-125 dry shot to take advantage of the new spec III that just went in . Also, I love the fact that with the nitrous off, cutout closed, and stock idle of the cam the car is pretty much a complete 11 second sleeper...

This sound like a good combo? Keep in mind this is a street car, not a track car

Auto or manual?

Aftermarket converter, and if so, what stall? If its a manual, it depends on how fast you shift and if you have an aftermarket flywheel among other things

I wrote a program to calculate it a while back. Right click and Save Target As. You need to know your tire size and gear ratio.

Wherever an RPM is shown you can enter a different one. I set it up to go to 6200, but you can enter in whatever numbers you like.

m6 with 4.10 gearing and a stock resurfaced flywheel for the spec III I mentioned in the original post.

Thanks DaleMX i'll check out the program and see if that helps!

Ran the program and just thought i'd post in case anyone else had the same question. Shifting at 6700 for 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 the rpms will drop to:

1-2 4483
2-3 4893
3-4 5154

And in case you don't want to wind that high and prefer to shift at 6500:

1-2 4350
2-3 4747
3-4 5000

This is great info to have because as we've seen, the ls6 came makes a good deal of power over the 4200-4300 mark or so compared to stock (as much as ~50). Looks like it stays in the power band the entire time once you get it up there!
