Thunder Racings Raptor cam
Hey guys so i just got off the phone with TR and i was getting a cam reccomendation, i told them i needed a good street strip cam aimed more for the street with an occasional weekend racing. I also wanted a cam that would be easy to tune and not surge or buck. Well the guy there told me to get there Raptor cam. He said as long as i sent them my computer to tune i would not have any problems driving it daily to and from work and there would not be any surging. Have any of you guys used this cam or can anyone confirm what he is telling me?
Here is the cam specs for those of you who do not know them- Thunder Racings Raptor Cam- 236/242 - .615/.615 - 111lsa

My car is an M6 with stock gearing. Well the reason i told them it had to be easy to tune was because i only have two tuners in my area and i dont have much faith in either. I really dont want to pay alot of money for a tune from them and then have it surging.

Surging could be an issue as well. The tuner will make all the difference here. Might I suggest a 228r if you are really concerned about your tuners as that cam is easy to tune.

They are a great company, actually I just ordered some stuff last night, but I'm not too sure you wanna go THAT big for mostly street use. Yes, I know a lot of people DD big cams and what not, it's just my opinion. If you gear your car (4.10's) I'm sure it would be much friendlier on the street. And if you do get it dynoed I bet that bitch puts down some power!

I would call TR back and tell them again what you are looking for in a cam because besides the drive ability issues IMO you are going to need 4.10s with a cam that big. Shane is the guy you need to talk to.

That is a large cam for a car more geared for the street. Even my Trak cam of theirs isn't something I'd want to be driving on the street all the time. I'd look into something smaller. It'll make the tuning much easier. And you will need steeper gears to make the driveability better.

Straight from Thunder Racing:
Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft
" RapTR" - 236/242 - .615/.615 - 111 lsa 3000-6800 RPM Power Band. Great mid-range & high RPM power. Requires computer tuning, 3600 converter on autos, 4.10's or greater depending on transmission. Works very well with nitrous and proper tuning. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended. Due to the extreme nature of this camshaft, piston to valve clearance must be verified when using modified cylinder heads
Doesn't really sound like what you're looking for, to be honest.

This cam will have some driveability issues, especially you running stock gears. Even with a good tune you will experience some bucking while cruising in lower RPM (2k or less). This just comes with the territory of getting a cam that size. Dont let that scare you away though, after you get used to the cam you will like it Im sure

take a look at the t-rak cam, think that would be more your speed. but as far as the surging issues, i have a very good tuner in my neck of the woods and daily drove my m6 ms4 cam only z28 with stock 342s for almost a year and loved it !! You teach yourself how to prevent surging and bucking, however mine did very little to begain with.. Goodluck but i would go with a trak atleast.
