Default lq9

Im wanting to drop in a lq9 with l92 heads and l76 intake in my ta. I heard there woudnt be much of a gain with porting the intake manifold? I was also wondering what cam to go with since i want to give it a stock look and sound to it? and is it a easy swap from a ls1 to lq9?

I have an LQ9 with L92 heads myself. There are some gains to porting the stock manifold if the person porting it knows what they are doing and isnt having an bad day.

I put a FAST LSXR on mine personally.

For a stock sounding cam I think Lingenfelter has some nice cams that sound fairly tame but make great power!

Yes the FAST LS3 will fit(#146102). LS3 and L92 heads have the same port configuration. Here it is on mine,

The cheapest Ive seen them is $825 shipped.

Comp Cams LSR cam 219/235 .607/.621 113. Its a catalog "LS3" cam, that I had them grind on a three bolt cam core. The LS3 cams have a single bolt cam. I love it!! Not too roudy and pulls like a freight train!!!

The head gaskets are GM #12610046 and are OEM L92.

My heads are CNC ported by Lingenfelter so my combustion chambers grew from 70cc to 74cc after porting. So I milled them .030" to get back to a 68-69cc chamber. My compression is right at 10.4-10.5:1

You have to watch your piston to valve clearance when you mill these heads. My cam BARELY had enough clearance to run. The next size up cam(223 intake) only had .045 PTV

With our engines, were are loose a lot of PTV fast because of this huge 2.160 intake valve, true flat top piston without vavle reliefs, and a piston that stick out of the hole .006-.008 typically. If you dont mill the heads you can fit a larger camshaft. Hot Rod did an article with Comps LSR cam and found the limit on a stock LS3but I dont remember the specs, I think it was a Comps 277LR grind or something like that. But you have to check your own piston to valve clearance no matter what.

Also if your running an aggresive cam you might want to upgrade from the heavy L92 intake valves to the lightweight LS3 hollow stem valves, I did. Thats really the only difference between and L92 head and an LS3 head.....Intake valves.

i was thinking of doing this myself also. its a fairly budget build that can see some really nice numbers. also, perfect for boost down the road with just a piston swap. anyways, sweet what kind of hp/tq numbers are you putting down with your combo? i know its in a s-10 so what tranny and rearend?

LQ4/LQ9,

Forged pistons, with L76/92/98 or LS3 heads and the L76 intake...
...Nice street cam.

Best combo going.
