Default Tea or Patriot?

Not trying to start a bashing thread, just looking for opinions and e.t.s with similar set up. Im going with X1 which is 230/227 591/571 112. PP5.3s are $1295 and flow 296 and 220 @ .600. Now I came across a once in a life deal to get TEA1.5s for less than $1295 and they flow 300 and 270(if thats right, got this off thier site)at .600. Which way should I go for max power and e.t. with mods in sig? Thanks for any info,Jason

I think Damian made ~455rwhp and he has a killer torque curve with the TEA 1.5's might want to talk with him.

I have the first version of the TEA 5.3 and my car makes 390rwtq at 4,000 rpm with my set up. Numbers in sig.

To the best of my knowledge there hasn't been any spring issues, beat up retainers with the TEA heads and TEA offers a 2 year/24,000 mile warranty on the valve train.

I went with TEA's for my new project and I have TEA's on old project.

I think Patriot makes a good product and I strongly considered Pat for my new heads.

Thats a heck of a deal on those TEA 1.5's. I would go with them.

Brian is a good guy and is always willing to talk if you have a question.

Plus you get a warranty and they have had no spring issues to speak of.

They BOTH offer an excellent cylinder head for the price, there is no doubt about that...

However I chose TEA for several reasons...The consistancy of CNC porting, Brian Tooley's customer service, the GREAT #'s that our local cars are making w/ TEA, and the fact that I know Brian stands behind his work...

It paid off. I am VERY pleased with my heads/cam setup. #'s are in the sig, made through a Ford 8.8 rear w/ 4:10's, untuned. With a 10 bolt and 3:42's my car would make 465+ rwhp as it sits. I am expecting roughly 465 RWHP with a perfect N/A tune and a little more tweaking through the 8.8. An LSX intake w/bigger TB is possibly in the future, which could possibly put me in the 470-480 rwhp range w/ TEA heads

Bottom line, TEA is where I do all my business and i've never looked back. Call TEA, call Patriot. Make your own conclusions and go from there. I don't think you'll go wrong with either. Good luck

As said.....both companies put out a great set of heads, and bothheads make good power. Which is better? Can't say as I've never owned a set of PP's heads. What I can say is that TEA headed cars here in GA. seem to be making the #, both on the dyno and at the track, and I've always been pleased w/my TEA heads. High dyno #'s are nice, we all like to see them, but the track is where the BS stops, and TEA has proven themselves to be winners time and time again.

I also know, that based on all the years of buying go fast parts, I have never before experienced the level of customer service/support, and genuine concern for their customers goals as I have with Brian and TEA. TEA has been known to(and continues to)bend over backwards for me, and that is what separates a good vendor from a great vendor IMHO.

I will be installing my 2nd pair of TEA heads soon, and look forward to purchasing the third set sometime next Fall.

Like Josh said.....it's really a comfort thing. Call TEA....call PP....make an informed decision, and have fun with your car.

i like TEA for what it is worth , Brian is VERY friendly and gives me the impression he wants to keep people coming back because they are HAPPY, no upset.

I have never had any dealings with PP , never heard anything bad either.

i have the patriots and i will tell you that both are a good deal. everything that damian said about tea is true as i have read that across the board. and everything he said goes for patriot as well. after all it was terry that really pushed the envelope for customer service. many people lost business not only because of his products/prices but also for his uncommon customer service. either way you will get a good deal. i have to ask tho... are the tea's new? just wondering how you got the good price.
good luck and enjoy whichever head you choose

Personally i would go with the TEA's. For one thats a very good price for those heads, and like mentioned above the TEA heads seem to be more consistant and have proven themselves both on the dyno and at the track. Good luck either route you go.

BLKTie8,

Are those 5.3's?

They look almost identical to my 5.3 flow numbers. I bought my heads about a year ago.

well then since both are very similar and perform the same i would go with the tea's since they are cheaper. seems like it would be the obvious choice

What Damian said. I have TEA's and have gotten great service from them. When I upgrade my setup, I'll be going back to TEA for my heads. Times in sig, 3500+ lbs.

I would find out the exaust flow numbers from TEA when flowed without an extension pipe. I always found it difficult to compare TEA heads when I was looking to buy because they did not post "true" exaust flow numbers like the other companies. Since your running a reverse split cam, you'll want the better flowing exaust or your set-up will suffer. Call both, see whos exaust flows better, calculate some intake/exaust ratios, and make an educated decision. I choose Patriot FWIW.

Why would you dyno a car and post (untuned numbers)? Never understood that?

The problem is flow numbers are all dependant on what bench the heads are flowed on. The last patriot 5.3l I flowed went 297cfm on the intake on a 1020

Because I made 455 rwhp untuned, which speaks loud volumes on the future capabilities. Why wouldn't I post it?

Beast, you shouldn't be comparing flow #'s when debating a purchase on cylinder heads. GTP doesn't always produce the best flow #'s, but they are some of the best heads on the market. You should be more worried about track and dyno results...Which TEA has no problems or producing...JMO
