Default tr224 vs 226/229

Car is a 98 formula

98 heads will be VJ bowl work mild port and milled to whatever works best

ls6 intake

1 3/4 headers 3/4 FM merge 4' bullet

Powerglide with 4500 stall

4.10 rear gears with 28 inch tires

What would i pick up going from tr224 to a 226/229 580/580 112?

What would be shift point on the 226/229? Little worried about spinning a 98.

The car will be sprayed often with a 150-175 shot.

I would go for a proven cam though. I would go with the VRX3(226/228) I run that cam that I cloned.

If you already have the 224 I wouldn't bother. A low 230's would be worth it. Unless you go up 6*s it is never worth the swap IMO.

That switch wont be worth it. You need to bump up to at least a 230's cam to see much difference that would be worth it. I made 371 with a tiny Comp 212/218 cam and went from that to a v2 (232/234) and make 401 now. Picked up 30 from the cam swap so to me that was worth it.

Go at least to a v2, v3, ms3, or some other variation in that range to make it worth it

if you are worried about high rpms don't use the nos.replace the rod bolts.short **** 500 rpms sooner with the nos .run a three speed auto with nos your tires are too small for a glide and your rpms will be high through the traps.what heads are you using? check out TSP heads mite be cheaper than your local head shop.

Are you for real? If you can't at least spell try not to give advice.

The reason for staying small is I want my shortblock to last awhile. I'd like to keep the shift point to 6500 or less really.
What are you guys shifting your smaller 230 cams at? Goal is bottom 11's/10.9's on motor and 10.3's or lower on spray

L-M-A-O

A glide doesnt have a step first gear like a Th400/350 does you moron so a glide is BETTER for a smaller tire. Why do you think the outlaw 10.5, outlaw radial, anything that runs a small tire is either running a glide or a TH400 changing to a TH210 which uses a less-steep first gear ratio to get the car to leave and not spin? Get a clue.

High RPM's through the traps have to deal with tire HEIGHT, gear ratio, and converter slippage.

To the OP, my 230/236 shifts at 6200 or so.
