Default Replace rod bolts or no?

How many people are replacing rod bolts with their cam swaps? How important is that and how hard is it to do if you already have the heads off?

Having the heads off has nothing to do with it. To get to the rod bolts you must remove the oil pan.

It depends on what yr LS1 you have, and what rpm your planning to spin it to.

The short story:

98-00 spinning 6500 is USUALLY considered safe. Doing it 30K here.

01-02 have better rod bolts and 6800 is considered safe with many turning 7K.

Have to drop the K member (PIA) to get the pan off.

Controversy over whether ARP's are safe because they are heavier and have different clamping properties.

Pretty much consensus Katech RB's are a direct swap with no downsides (except expensive).

I agree with your thoughts, but you are a little conservative(not a bad thing when dealing with LS rod bolts.

I do not, however, agree with your assumption that ARP's are controversial due to their weight and clamping properties. Installed correctly, ARP's work excellent. The only people who claim problems with ARP's are people who paid the extra $$$ for Katech's.

If you got $$$ to burn, feel free to buy Katech's, but you'd be fine with ARPs.
