Another vote for the PAC's. I've got 918's, from a set of the 'good batch' from a while ago, but when I swap springs, it'll be for a set of the PAC 1518s.

We've seen no issues with the new 918's (or old for that matter) when they were used in the right applications and setup properly! Too many people just throw a set of springs and a camshaft in and count on .600" lift springs to handle .61x" valve lift without worry. That's not what they were designed to do, and manufacturers put these ratings on them with good reason!

That all being said, we also offer the PAC 1218 and 1518 springs at competitive prices for those who are more comfortable with them.

Setting them up is key.

If you're running between .525-.575 lift then dropping them in is usually fine. Anything over .575 requires extra assembly IMO. Shimming, checking height, etc..

As Matt said, most people assuming they can run a .595-.600 lift cam no problem with a "drop in" assembly. Another reason sites like ls1howto.com are dangerous.

Setting up springs to the manufacterers recommended installed height should ALWAYS be done even though it requires a little more work. This ensures proper spring pressure and means better valve control and longer life.

I WOULD NOT RUN the old 918s!! I am surpised there are still any on the market. I ran the blue stripe 918s for years after breaking a 941. But I'd STAY AWAY from the orange stripe 918s!!!

I've been running the original 918 series for over four years with no problems.

No problems with the old set or the new ones. Like stated before, it is important that they are set up properly.

Im running the new 918s on mine with .607/.621 lift, without issue. I did take the time to set them all up .060" from coilbind.

Ive also ran them on probably 10 other engines and beat the crap out of them. No issues.

Not that its good info, but I ran a 244/248 .615/.622 cam on older 918's for 20k but before that there were 3 other cams on the same springs. IMO they are sort of under rated because they know what they CAN handle as opposed to what they advertise just to keep a lower failure rate.

I was probably lucky and they were probably worn out, but I dont think they are a bad spring at all.
