We've seen no issues with the new 918's (or old for that matter) when they were used in the right applications and setup properly! Too many people just throw a set of springs and a camshaft in and count on .600" lift springs to handle .61x" valve lift without worry. That's not what they were designed to do, and manufacturers put these ratings on them with good reason!
That all being said, we also offer the PAC 1218 and 1518 springs at competitive prices for those who are more comfortable with them.

Setting them up is key.
If you're running between .525-.575 lift then dropping them in is usually fine. Anything over .575 requires extra assembly IMO. Shimming, checking height, etc..
As Matt said, most people assuming they can run a .595-.600 lift cam no problem with a "drop in" assembly. Another reason sites like ls1howto.com are dangerous.

I WOULD NOT RUN the old 918s!! I am surpised there are still any on the market. I ran the blue stripe 918s for years after breaking a 941. But I'd STAY AWAY from the orange stripe 918s!!!

Not that its good info, but I ran a 244/248 .615/.622 cam on older 918's for 20k but before that there were 3 other cams on the same springs. IMO they are sort of under rated because they know what they CAN handle as opposed to what they advertise just to keep a lower failure rate.
I was probably lucky and they were probably worn out, but I dont think they are a bad spring at all.
