Default What motor to build??

Ok guys I will make this as short as possible I am just looking for some advice as to what combo I should go with to reach my goal. My car is as it says in my signature right now. Stock Longblock, LS6 intake, TH400 and Midwest Chassis 9". Since I have my drivetrain built up I am now looking to make some power. This car is primarly a track car with some weekend duty so I do want to be able to drive it around town from time to time when the weather is nice out. My goal is a motor that will put the car into the mid 9's and maybe even a low 9 with some work and practice driving the car. I want this to be a nitrous car and would like to spray a 200-300 direct port shot. I am looking for advice on what engine to build. I am thinking a 400+ cu in LS2 or LS3 with a custom ground cam and some nice AFR or TFS heads and of course a forged bottom end. I am not looking to cut any corners on anything but would like to hear peoples thoughts on ways to keep the cost down without sacrificing anything. Any thoughts or advice you have would be great. Thanks!!

Tyler

A forged short block is a given in this case. While a stroker LS3 would be nice, I would probably lean towards a cast iron 402/408 stroker. They are stronger and cheaper than a stroker LS3. The downside is that the LQ9 is a little heavier. Check out Texas Speed for built short blocks.

Our 408 would do the job, if you wanted to stay in aluminum then the 402 would be fine as well. We also offer a 457 that will push a 3300 lb car to mid to low 9's n/a.

I may be completely wrong on this but I think if you went with a LS3 build, you would have to change your PCM too because of the 58x crank sensors vs the 24x in the 99 Z28you have. If you were willing to spend the money on a LS3 build, then that probably won't matter too much, it'd just be that much more to do. Like I said though, I am not sure how all that works, but maybe someone with more experience can say.

Sorry if I don't know what I am talking about...
