Cam and gear question
Just looking for feedback from anyone with a similar experience. I have an MS4 complete cam kit and honestly I'm kinda itching to get it installed. However, I am still running stock 3:42's. I know it would be faster at the track with 4:11's, but would it be terrible just to drive around on the stock gears and then later do the gears or better yet, replace with a 12 bolt or 9" set up. Let me know if you've run that set up and how it went. Thanks!

^^^ you're half right, If you aren't leaving off the limiter, you're leaving time on the track. With this cam, it wont be sluggish. As far as street driving, HA, its just like stock down low, that is until you mash the pedal.

I had an MS3 and 3:23 gears in my Z. It worked fine, but was sluggish until 60mph. It turned into a different car after the 3:73 gear swap! Gear swap - good mod!
The 3:42 gears will be ok, but 4:11s will compliment and complete the cam swap.
It will be quicker and you will feel it pull harder.

Of course it will pull harder, thats what torque multiplication is.
Look, I understand the point of gears + big cam, to get you to your powerband quicker, but the same can be said about cam or no cam, ANY set up. I just don't see it as a requirement like everyone else does.

I am no pro in this subject but think of it this way. When you were a road a bike as a kid, would you ride up hill in 6th gear or down shift into first? Half way up hill my legs get tired and need gear for me to move easier in. Kinda the same way the rear gears are. The higher numerical value of rear gears you have, the faster and easier it will accelerate. Hope this helps.

There is no "requirement" its just highly recommended. Just like long tube headers. Yeah its not required to have them, but there is an advantage to using them.

I know that there is not a requirement, but highly recommended, I just don't see it. There is an advantage to use most aftermarket performance parts period, not just after a cam swap. If there wasn't, why would people use them.
