That test you did was not valid, really should be doing it at 100psi

my leak down tester allows you to do it at 50 75 or 100 and has the conversion charts for all 3 settings, the only thing that was not valid was the fact i didnt rotate the pistons and before you cry that 100 gives different results, NO it dont i have compared the % results between 75 and 100 many of times just for fun and the % of leak down was spot on. all that 100 psi does is makes the math easier to do in your head and that is all.

haha yep, i had a guy stand there once while we was doing a leak down and say the same thing, he was like uh you know you need to do that at 100 for it to be accurate , well after we showed him that you can do it at other levels and still get the exact same % he shut up and left.

No shortage of "experts" out there that will give very definitive advice only to be countered by another "expert". I'm learning that the best strategy is to listen to EVERYONE with an open mind and then formulate a common sense opinion of your own.

Well as long as you properly conbert it its ok BUTT at higher pressures you could see different results depending on the condition of the rings. I would use 100psi at BDC then TDC. That will tell you ALOT about the condition of the rings and cylinders walls. If you are just pulling the plugs and checking the cylinders without checking at BDC and TDC you aint checkin much!

Those results are unrealistic. If you look at the instructions for leak down testing you're told that all engines leak to some degree and not to expect the high standards reflected in those numbers. An engine will perform well with percentage numbers considerably higher than those described here.
