Default low oil pressure?

i bought a 2002 z28 today and when i was driving it, i noticed that the oil pressure might be a little low. at idle the oil pressure is at 20 psi and when i drive it the oil pressure is at 25-35 psi. does this seem normal or low? what is the normal oil pressure for an ls1 engine? thanks!

Try changing the oil and filter, and let us know what it runs then.

No on damage but that is the low end for these cars. Mine idles hot at 40 and runs 50 at 1800-2000k and 60 @ redline. There are guys higher and lower than me. If you see a dip at WOT before it rises you have probs. As long as you have a steady rise you are ok....

I agree, please keep us upto date! Be easy on it for the trip home, if you have not made it yet. Don't worry about it unless you see a drop as said above....

I think normal oil pressure should be a little about the 1/4 mark. If it gets any lower than that I would shut that thing off beforre you cause major engine damage.

minimum required pressure at idle is 6lbs so you are ok. from my experiences if it drops at wot before rising the oil is low

i just got the car home a few hours ago. the oil pressure on the way home stayed between 35-40 psi at 60-70mph and between 1500-2000 rpm. the oil pressure went up as soon as i hit the gas. i didnt mention this last time i posted but there is a whining noise coming from the front of the motor. it is very loud. any idea what it could be? my dad said it could be an ac compressor or idler pully but i just want some more input.

Well, the oil pressure seems great! Congrats on that. I would have to hear the noise myself, but maybe P.S. pump??? Anyone else??
